Yet to trace the history of Forestry it is necessary to go further back than 1834. The first known date is a gathering of Royal Foresters at Knaresborough in Yorkshire on 29th October 1745. The building sadly is no longer standing in Knaresborough.. *The Old Crown Inn* The founders were religious men and required a high standard of conduct and philanthropy from those who wished to join as quotations from their rule book show. Court Marquis of Normanby was the name for the Carterton Order.. Some of the early names of members are as follows for this area: Haxton.Catt.Watson.Groube.WIlson. Heap.Bristow.Meyrick.Marsh.Bowles.Bennett.Kiddie.Darroch.McKenzie.Nicholson.Tyler.Smith.Underhill.Wakelin.Smith.De Lacey.Beckett.Campin.Castle.Turley. Stevens.Anderson.Plank. Members paid subscriptions. Carterton's Historical Society and Museum, do hold a Ballot Box. Axes. and Sashes all part of the Regalia for AOF. I have a list here, with names on, saying who paid a Hospital fee. but the person who has typed it out, as entered Decimal money, and of course, these original records would be pre decimal as going back to 1880s.. so when I am able too, I will retype in pounds. shillings and pence!! He may have thought people wouldnt know what sterling money was, and thought doing a good job to do decimal.. but to me, its history and should be in pre decimal currency! Wonderful records if someone was wanting more information on their ancestors! I found the book I was searching for which AOF in England kindly sent out to me the other year, when I was first making enquiries, as was told, it had completely folded... I do not believe things I am told, I prefer to find out if accurate. and it was not.. far from it! So trust this helps whoever needs the information..
