Though these may be 2 different surnames, it is possible their spelling was changed at some point in time. At another point in time, they could have been the same name. Just as Bowles spelling, became Boles spelling, when a Bowles came from Va to Ky on the run. His son, for some reason, took out the "w", leaving the surname Boles. The spelling continued on feom there, until now. So, when the other Bowles relations came from Va to Ky, their spelling remained Bowles.
