    2. DNA should take this William Bowles Sr. back to the Bowe's around Ashland, VA. William Bowles calls himself Senior, my guess is William Bowles Jr. who married Sally Stanly in 1846 had died before 1849? If anybody knows let me know. William Bowles Will, Surry Co. 1849 North Carolina Archives CR 092.801.3 In the name of God Amen, I, WILLIAM BOWLES, SENIOR, of the County of Surry and State of North Carolina being of sound and disposing mind and memory but considering the uncertainty of my earthly existence do make publish and declare this my last Will and Testament in manner and form following that is to say First that my executors herein after named shall at my death provide for my body a decent burial suitable to the wishes of my relations and friends and pay all funeral expenses together with all my just debts to whomsoever owing out of the moneys that may first come into their hands as a part or parcel of my estate. Secondly, I give and bequeath unto my beloved wife, AILEY BOWLES during her lifetime or widowhood the home and tract of land wherein I now live, together with all other land belonging to me, together with every appurtenance therewith belonging. Also, all my house hold and kitchen furniture of every description also all my farming tools of every description. Also my stock of horses, cattle, hogs, and sheep. I also will and bequeath to my wife, AILEY BOWLES during her life or widowhood all my negro slaves together with their further increase and as my beloved wife Ailey is becoming old and infirm so as not to be able to control and manage the negro slaves and other property herein before mentioned and bequeathed to her in such way and manner as to improve and keep it together from waste and injury and my will and desire is to leave it in such condition as to be most conducive to her comfort and ease and that it may be kept together and improved for the benefit of my children after he death. I therefore declare it to be my will and desire that my executors at my death shall take into control and management of all my property herein willed and bequeathed to my wife, Ailey Bowles and to control and manage the same in such a way and manner as to them may seem most likely to add to the ?? of my said wife and to the improvements of my estate. Thirdly, my will and desire is that at the death of my wife Ailey Bowles all my property of every description shall be equally divided between all my children share and share alike. That is to say between ELIZABETH DUNAGIN, wife of JAMES DUNAGIN, SALLY FRANKLIN, wife of GIDEON FRANKLIN, PATSY SNOW, wife of WM C. SNOW, NANCY VENABLE, wife of JESSE VENABLE, JAMES BOWLES, and JOHN BOWLES. Fourthly my will and desire is that at the death of my wife that all my negro slaves that may then be bound together with my land be equally divided between all my children by lot and that all the remainder of my property be sold on six months credit and the proceeds of such sale be equally divided between all my children herein before mentioned. And lastly I do hereby constitute and appoint my trusty friends JOHN JERVIS and JONATHAN JONES my lawful executors to all intends and purposes to execute this my last will and testament according to the true intent and meaning of the same and every part and clause thereof hereby ?? and declaring utterly void all other wills and testaments by me made.
