Sigh... I just did it again. I clicked on reply to respond to a message that I assumed was a private message, only to discover too late that the message had come to me through the list, so my reply was going back to the list. We are all guilty of doing this. Sometimes its just a nuisance, sometimes it can be a mistake because we inadvertently send really private information to everyone who is subscribed to the list, or who will ever use a search engine to read old messages. We all need to remember that our reply to any message that comes to us from the list will automatically go back to the list unless we manually change the address in the To: field. This is one reason why when I send a message to the list for which I expect possible private replies that I include a link in the message that allows you to respond directly to me. It looks like this: [mailto:hartley@iglou.com] Clicking on that link should open up a new message in your mail program that is addressed to me. You can do the same thing if you wish. Just replace my email address with yours like this: [mailto:somebody@somewhere.com] You can even get fancy if you like and add a message field like this: [mailto:hartley@iglou.com?Subject=Bowles DNA Project] Anyway, I'm going to try to be more careful about where my responses go (but I bet I'll mess up again).
