Linne, look on pages 28,29 and 46 of Dripping Springs church...it says...Sister Lucy-servant of William Bowles-November 1808. Also in 1808, Sarah must've bought Lucy from William, since it says she was dismissed from the church on consequence of being sold. She was received back in the church as a servant of Sarah Bowles, only a month later, December 1808. Then, Br. Ben a servant of William Bowles-May 1815, but a bro Ben was first mentioned as being owned by Lowry Bishop. And we know that Stocktons, Bishops and Bowles relate. Though William Bowles wasn't mentioned as a member of Dripping Springs church. He was mentioned in the records of the church. So there was a connection, somewhere. Pisgah Baptist Church (Barren County, Kentucky) Mt. Pisgah was a daughter of Dripping Spring Baptist Church. In the Dripping Spring Church Book on the first Saturday in April 1809, the following was recorded: "'After divine service 1st. a number of the brethren made excuses for neglecting to attend church meeting and took their seat. 2nd. Received Ann a servant of C. Hitches by experence. [sic.] 3rd. From a petition from the following bretheren viz: John & Ann Warder, Joseph & Esther Warder, Clement & Elizabeth Hitch, Joseph Warder, Sarah Bowles, John & Elizabeth Bowles, Sibella Longdon, William Warder, Walter and Polly Warder, Sarah & Polly Maddox, Nancy Settle, Jack (a servant of T. James), Baptist (serv. of J. Warder) Lucy (ser. of Sarah Bowles) letter of dismission and granted in order to form a constitution at a meeting house by John Warder & dismissed in order.'" On the fourth Sunday in April the following was recorded: "'at a meeting at Brother John Warders dismissed Moses & Hannah Cox, Frederic & Lucy Smith, Elizabeth Settle, Sally Bailey, Elisha Deweese, Wm. Beard, Michael & Fanny Hall, Manuel (a serv. of Lucy Settle) in order to join the above const.'" In 1856 Mt. Pisgah was dismissed by letter from the Green River Association to join some other association in that area. The church appears to have united with the Original Barren River Association at this time. However by 1879 there is no mention of the church in the minutes of that association. In 1855, a church called Mt. Pisgah, joined the Barren River Association with a membership of 26, and continued with that body until 1860." (snip) [Next is an accounting of the men who were the representatives of the church at larger association meetings. In 1814, W. Bowles is mentioned, and there were 93 members. No other Bowles are mentioned in the other years.] [Just for the record, I'm going to list all the Bowles in the book, their churches and the years they attended, so we can have it in one place.] Page 112: Three Springs Baptist Church (Barren County, Kentucky) Messengers 1876 I.
