Is anyone missing a later William Anderson Bowles? This is a long way from Kentucky but I'm sorting out the traces of Bowles in Canada and have a William Anderson Bowles suddenly appearing in Central Canada (Minnedosa, Manitoba) in 1888. He may have arrived with the railroad as he's described as a section foreman in one record. He married a Mary Anne Tomlinson there that year and an Elizabeth Anderson Bowles was born a year later. Then they disappear again. There were no Bowles in that area before or after that and I have no Anderson Bowles anywhere in Canada before or after that. It seemed strange that they would keep the Anderson as a middle name for their daughter with the mother's name being Tomlinson but perhaps they were following a family tradition.?? If so it wasn't a tradition of any other Canadian Bowles. I have over a 1000 Bowles recorded in Canada before 1920 and there's no Anderson connections for any of them so far. Also, a John Tanner was taken by Indians while a little boy in Kentucky about 1790 and grew up in Canada later becoming a famous guide for the American Fur Company. He re-established contact with his family in Kentucky in the 1820's. His grand-son later homesteaded in Manitoba in the 1870's and operated a river ferry at Tanner's Crossing which was renamed Minnedosa by the time William Anderson Bowles arrived there. That story is at: http://www.mhs.mb.ca/docs/pageant/02/tanner_j.shtml There is also a place named Kentucky Farm near there today so maybe..... > > From: "Leathel Bowles" <LEATHEL@worldnet.att.net> > Date: 2005/03/06 Sun AM 11:52:37 CST > To: BOWLES-L@rootsweb.com > Subject: Re: William Anderson Bowles > > Sorry, I don't have anymore proof than anyone else.
