Sir Roger Mynors - son of Richard Mynors - "Somatyme Sergeant of the Ring's Cellar tempore Hviii" - Sable, an eagle splayed or beaked and membered Jules [red] on a chief azure [blue] bordered argent [silver] a chevion of the last with two crescents in chief and a rose in base of the second. Crest - a man's hand holding a bear's paw [represents main-ours, a typical heraldic pun in french]. Reference: College of Arms MS. H8. The old family Coat is also to be found in the form sable an eagle splayed or a chief argent. In 1787 the family [mistakenly] assumed by Royal License the elaborate Tudor Arms granted to Sir Roger Mynore in place of the older and simpler Coat. Not having spotted the French pun, the Crest was registered as a man's right arm embowed holding a bear's paw. The Motto now used is "Spero ut Fidelis". There is no Motto in the Visitation of 1530, and the age and provenance of this Motto is not known.
