    3. Leathel, I have to be honest and say that I don't know a thing about early KY history or the disagreements about slavery. The only thing I'm sure about is that Benjamin Bowles' son Henry had slaves on his plantation in TX, and Benjamin Bowles' wife Betsey Jeffries was very much involved with the Baptist Church both in KY and after they arrived in TX. And that Henry's daughter, my great-grandmother, was absolutely and permanently thrown out of the family for marrying a Yankee. So they had deep feelings about being Confederates. My sense is that for generations, the Bowles men made up their own minds about how they were going to be doing business, and the women were devout churchgoers. It was as if they left each other alone to run their own daily lives and worlds. Linne >Lue, you are correct they had slaves.
