I agree that Augustine Ethelbert Cissell (son of John Baptist and Rebecca) and Ethelbert Cissell (son of John Cissell and Henrietta) are two different men. I have the wife of Ethelbert Cissell (1763-1/21/1826) as Elizabeth Mattingly, but I don't have a middle name of Maria for her. She did, however, name her daughter (and only child as far as I know), Elizabeth Maria Cissell (who married George H. Morgan). I have no real proof, but strongly suspect that the mother of Ethelbert Cissell and wife of John Cissell was Henrietta Knott, daughter of William Knott and Ann Mattingly (daughter of Thomas Mattingly II, 1650-1714, and his second wife, Elizabeth). Lots of interactions between the Knotts and Mattinglys. Will of William Knott, SMC, 1/30/1737-3/7/1737. To: Daughters--Monica, Mildred, Henrietta, and Winifred; John Brayfield; sons, Benjamin and Thomas; and Mary Mattingly, personalty. Sons: John and Ignatius, each 50 ac. of dwelling plantation and personalty after their mother's decease. To: Other 7 children and wife Ann (Exec.), residue of estate. I feel more confident in saying, though, that Mildred Knott, daughter of William and Ann, married Michael Cusic shortly after her father's will was made. (James Clarke, son of John Clarke, Jr. and Elizabeth Mattingly, Ann Mattingly Knott's half sister). 5/8/1749: Admin. accts. of Ignatius Knott, SMC. Sureties: Thomas Simpson, John Medley Simpson. Payments from: Richard Hayden, Thomas Knott, Michael Cusic, James Vincent, and William Knott. Payments to: John Eden, William Suttle, Ann Knott, Capt. Robert Chesley, Capt. Gilbert Ireland, Thomas Simpson, Jr., Thompson Simpson, Sr., Thomas Black. Distribution to: accountant (widow, 1/3). Residue to (orphans): Sarah Knott (aged 10); Richard Basil Knott (aged 6); Elizabeth Knott (aged 4). Admin.: George Thompson. Admin. accts. of John Knott, 6/26/1749. Winifred Knott, another daughter, married ______Mattingly (can't figure out his first name for sure and can't place him). 11/30/1767: Bapt. Rebecca, dau. of Aleseius (Aloysius?) and Winifred Mattingly. GP: Zachariah Knott and Ann Boarman (Jesuit Missions). NOTE: Zachariah Knott was a brother of Winifred Knott. 4/20/1770: Baptism of Matthew Mattingly, child of Alexander (?) and Winifred Mattingly. GP: John Maddox and Susan Branson. I find no further record of Rebecca, Matthew, Winifred or her husband. Kentucky maybe?
