Leathel, Lucy was first mentioned as the servant of William Bowles. In 1809 she was mentioned as belonging to Sarah Bowles. That's the reason I thought, maybe William had died. William also owned a servant, Ben. Sometimes slaves were named after their owners. Maybe William had a Ben relative somewhere. But a servant, Ben was also owned by Lowry Bishop, first. Don't know if this was the same Ben. Probably was. Also if many of these people related, it's possible that more than 1 line of Bowles went to Dripping Springs church. Look at the Holsclaws and Melinda Bowles. They were members there. People came from miles arouind, to Dripping Springs. It wasn't like it is now, where we can go to a church that is near. But there were also many well known preachers back in the 1800s, and people followed them, from everywhere. It was stated in the Dripping Springs records that the Dales and Shirleys were always fighting. (maybe fueding) They related through marriage.
