First of all, I can't personally vouch for the following information. All that I know about it is contained in this message. In looking around on the internet, I came across a site at [http://www.melungeons.com/articles/melungeondnaproject.htm] that contains information about something called the Melungeon DNA Project. On that page was some Bowles information including the following excerpt: "Our BOWLES sample came from Harold Bowles, who traces his ancestry to Chief Bowles, who was born about 1746 and died July 16, 1839. Bowles married three or more women, all Cherokee, including Jennie Due, the daughter of Robert Due and Elizabeth Emory; Oo-ti-yu VANN, and Oo-lootsa, daughter of Tah-chee, half-brother to Sequoyah." I spoke with someone at Family Tree DNA and learned that this Harold Bowles had been tested AND that his 12 markers matched three of our participants. Regrettably the only email address I have for this Harold Bowles (hlbowles@milx.net) is no longer any good. I have informed the three matching participants privately about this, and until I learn more about this Harold Bowles I don't feel comfortable sharing any more information about him.
