    3. Well, Charlie, I can't get through to you when I contact you directly. Something has come between us and I don't know what it is. (Is this a woman's complaint, or what?) I wanted to give you Gina's address, in case she wasn't on the list anymore, but I see that she did just fine by herself. So I'll give you Paula Boales' address (pboales@hot.rr.com). Paula also has ancestors in Christian Co., KY. Yours, Linne >> Charlie, I've tried to contact you directly via your address >>you gave us (hartley@iglou.com), and both times my message to you >>has bounced back to me. 3. Do you think he would have been related to george bowles and lucy bowles? They were also from christian county ky. I am interested in this line. There son James C Bowles was my great Grandfather. Any help? Gina Charles Hartley <hartley@iglou.com> wrote:Okay, I think this is William H. Bowles in the 1850 census for Christian County. He was listed as age 19 and a carpenter. Unfortunately he was living in a boarding house with a bunch of other carpenters so there is no indication of his parents. By 1860 he and Sarah Ann are married, with two children: Azilee, age 3; and Altamont, age 4/12. Azilee is almost certainly the same as the Adala in the 1870 census, and Altamont must be Walter; at least the ages are right. The family is living in Christian County KY in 1860. The reason I have been tracing this family is that their son Walter ended up in Grant County OK in 1900 with his family, and his Bowles family was the only one I couldn't identify in the Grant County census. All of the rest of the Bowles families there are descended from John and Celia Bowles of Metcalfe County KY, but Walter's does not appear to be related to them, at least in any way that I can see. Hope this helps someone. Charlie --------------------------------- Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! Mail - 250MB free storage. Do more. Manage less.

    3. Carole, If you have further info I would be happy to check some of my databases. My Bowles came out of southern MO. What is your grandmother's first name? I assume she was born in 1932 in OK. Was Otis also born in OK? Did they live anywhere else beside those two states that you know of? The Otis Wallace Ray you mentioned was born in 1912 in OK and died in 1958 - no SS# given in the CA death index. There are two Otis Rays and two Wallace Rays in the SSDI so if push came to shove you could write for all four records. 1. Bowles in GA
    2. Are any of the list members descended from William Bowles/Booles (m. Sally Bevin) who settled in Wilkes/Green Cos. area of GA after the Revolutionary War? I'm also interested in John Bowles/Booles and Jesse Bowles/Booles who were found living close to this William around the early 1800s. There's good evidence that this William Bowles/Booles was brother of my Benjamin Bowles of NC (and John, Jesse above may also be related). I would like to track down some descendants of these guys in hopes of finding someone who would be interested in participating in the DNA project. Brenda

    2. Charles Hartley
    3. As of this morning we have three Bowles DNA participants signed up. These should receive their kits soon (this week or early next week). If you have decided to participate, or are seriously considering it, I urge you to go ahead and sign up at the website listed below. http://www.familytreedna.com/surname_join.asp?code=W26816&special=true Once the kit has arrived back at Family Tree DNA it will take several weeks, perhaps as much as two months for the results to be available. Don't be confused by TV shows where DNA samples are processed and returned overnight. It takes longer than that. The technicians are very careful and double check their work before releasing the results, so we have to be patient. Because of the time involved, the sooner you get your kit and return it, the sooner the results will be available and you can start seeing if we have matches. If you have questions, please ask: [mailto:hartley@iglou.com]. Charlie

    1. Blanche Bowles m. Frank H. Wilkinson
    2. Linne Gravestock
    3. Linne, This Wilkinson side of the family is my Dad's side of the family tree, on my maternal grandfather's side (which is from Rockingham county) we are descended of John Locke and Elizabeth Bolles m. abt 1677 in probably Rye, NH. Elizabeth was the daughter of Joseph Bolles of Wells, Maine. I don't know Blanche's ancestry, or if she is from Joseph Bolles line, because all I know is that her parents were John H. Bowles and Elizabeth. I don't have Blanche's marriage date, nor her parents' marriage date. Her birth is August 1866, and her father's is February 1829 and her mother's is May 1839, (from the 1900 census at Northumberland, NH) and all were born in NH. I don't know where they were married either, but both families (Bowles and Wilkinson) lived in Northumberland through the 1930's censuses (and perhaps beyond, but we don't have access to those census records yet!) My Bolles line is from another side of the family, completely different from this Blanche Bowles, (as far as I know, they could be relatives if we could trace it back since they all appear to be from NH!)
