As of this moment we have 14 participants with 11 kits returned to Family Tree DNA. Of the 11 returned kits, we have Y-DNA results on two. These are posted at our project website at [http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~gensoup/bowlesdna.html]. Of our 14 participants, 1 ordered the DNA Plus Kit which includes the 37 marker Y-DNA test, 11 have ordered the 25 marker kit, and 2 ordered the 12 marker kit. The lab at Family Tree DNA posts results for the first 12 markers of any Y-DNA test before they post the remaining markers. For that reason if you order the 25 marker (or higher) kit, you will get your results in batches. For those whose kits were received by Family Tree DNA on or before 7 Jan 2005, I anticipate getting your 12 marker results this week or early next week. Your 13-25 marker results should arrive a week or so after that. Remember however that the testing procedure is very exact, and may take a bit longer in some cases. For those whose kits were received later in January, you can probably expect to see your first results near the end of February or the first week of March. Regarding the two results that have come in thus far, it is obvious from looking at them that they do not match, so we already have two distinct groups of Bowles ancestors. It will be interesting to see what arrives during the next few weeks. If you have not yet decided to order a kit, I encourage you to visit the webpage at http://www.familytreedna.com/surname_join.asp?code=W26816&special=true and get involved in this opportunity. If you have questions, ask me. Charlie Hartley Bowles DNA Project Administrator [mailto:hartley@iglou.com]

Ed Hays, charged with the cutting, had his examining trial in Edmondon Wednesday, is in jail in default of $500 bond. While young Judge BOLES was coming up from Pageville, Tuesday, driving a team, the mules took fright at something and wheeled suddenly. Judge went out of the wagon and stood on his head in the road in mud something more or less than a foot deep. He came on to town, introduced himself to his friends and cleaned up. The team ran off after throwing him out, but were fortunately stopped before any injury was done to either them or the wagon. Mrs. WATSON, the aged mother of Dr. M. L. Watson, died at Willow Shade last Fridayh. The remains were interred in the Summer Shade cemetery Saturday. A Big Fight. ___pring, Edmunson [sic] county, __ days ago, two young men by the name of MADISON, and the other by the name of John ___ndsay [LINDSAY} became involved in a difficulty, when young Madison drew a kife and attempted to cut Lindsay. Mitchell Lindsay, a younger brother of John Lindsay, thereupon struck Madison over the head, sessriously injuring him. The Sheriff of Edmunson county was present and arrested the young men. Shot Her Sisters. A curious shooting affair took place at Pageville, Saturday. Mr. Logan ESTES, is the clever blacksmith at Pageville. Friday he killed hogs. Saturday his thirteen-year-old daughter, Carrie, was playing with her sisters five and two years old, and got into a game of "killing the hogs." In the course of the proceedings the elder child leveled her father's rifle (which she supposed was unloaded) at her two little sisters and pulled the trigger with the usual result. The gun went off and the bullet passed through the thigh of one and through both legs of the other. After inflicting three wounds, they all passed on and no trace as to where it finally imbedded itself can be found. Fortunately, the injuries inflicted are only flesh-wounds and are not regarded at all dangerous. It is not likely, however, that the game of "hog killing" will soon be again played in the Estes household. We have an Isabella Watt (b 1862) in Meaford, Grey County, Ontario, who married a D.R. Bole from Toronto--and we don't know if they had kids, etc. Isabella Watt was the daughter of Charles Watt (b May 1836 in County Tyrone, Ireland) and Isabella McGirr (d 1866) who lived in Meaford. We'd love any information about these folks--or any on the full list following: Our WATT brickwall goes back to Charles and Jane (Steenson) Watt in County Tyrone, Ireland, probably in Pomeroy and/or Donaghmore Parish about 1851. Jane (42) and children James(17), Charles(15), Margaret (14), Andrew (11) and probably Robert (20)(and maybe a Henry) immigrated to Ontario Canada around 1851-52, probably after Charles died in Ireland as Jane was a widow in Ontario. Jane and the kids first moved to Morrisburg in Dundas County, then later settled in Meaford town in Grey County, Ontario. We're still looking for other descendants of any of this group--so we can exchange information and see if anyone has pictures! Charles Watt and Margaret Watt Hurd lived most or all of their lives in Canada. James and Andrew both moved to the US in 1888. James Watt (b1835), was a farmer in Meaford and married Mary S. Rugg and they had children Nettie Watt Dafoe (b1862); Henry Watt (b1865); Minnie Watt Huff (b1867); William James Watt (b1869)who married Lydia Crowder and lived in Ross, ND; Charles Robert Watt (b1872) who married Ida Victoria Monson and lived in Mohall, ND; Margaret Watt (b1874); Egerton Watt (b1879); Herbert Hugh Watt (b 1881) who married Jennie Blackburn and lived in Cleveland; and Maude Mary Watt (b 1882) who married Amos W. Congdon and lived in Grand Rapids, MI. Charles Watt (b1836), was a fanning-mill & farm equipment maker, plus was mayor of Meaford, married Isabella McGirr and had Charles Watt (b 1858), Samuel D. Watt (b 1860), and Isabella Watt Bole (b @ 1862) who married D. R. Bole of Toronto. After wife Isabella died, Charles remarried to Margaret Kennedy and they had Edith Olive Watt (b 1868) married to Rollin C. Moore and lived in Toronto, Mary Ida Watt (b 1869) married to William James Honeyford and lived in Collingswood, Ontario, Robert Kennedy Watt (b 1870), William James Watt (b 1872)who may have lived in Cleveland, Andrew Watt (b 1875) who lived in Meaford, George Alexander Watt (b 1876) who married Sadie and lived in Pittsburgh, Robert R. Redge Watt (b 1878) who lived in Walkerville, Ontario in 1910,and Frank Watt (b 1879) who lived in Meaford. Margaret Watt (b 1837) was married to greengrocer & gentleman Kilborn Hurd in Meaford. They had children Elizabeth Hurd (b 1861) who married a ? Byron Kilborn; Charles Kilborn Hurd (b 1867) who lived in Iowa City.; William Henry Hurd (b 1869), and Andrew Edwin Hurd (b 1872). They supposedly moved to Toronto after losing their youngest sons and reportedly had 2 other children there. Andrew Watt (b 1841), baliff for the town of Meaford, married Eliza Jane Lloyd and they had Robert Wellington Watt (b 1861) who lived in Nebraska, Utah, Idaho and Oregon; Charles Edward Watt (b 1864) who married Katie V. Garson and lived in Colorado, Portland and later in Malibu) and had children Ella T. Watt (b 1884), Charles Milton Watt (b 1887), and Nate C. Watt (b 1889); Anne Watt (b 1867 who died young); Ella Watt (b 1869) who married Charles Weeks and had son Herbert Weeks (b @ 1902); Jane (Jennie) Watt (b 1872) who married Frank E. Smith and lived in Fremont, NE; William John Watt (b 1875) who married Phoebe and lived in Denver with children Ruth M. Watt (b1904) and Betty Esther Watt (b 1906); James Albert Watt (b 1878) who married Alice W. (?Thompson) and lived in Denver with children Miriam Watt (b @ 1907 and married Barrie B. Cooper), and son James A. Watt (b @ 1914). Recognize any of this crowd? It would be fun to trace them back from Ireland to their original home of Scotland--since they were Scots-Irish. Marilyn Watt
Just as an example of Bowles mis-spellings, Hattie Rool in this record is almost certainly Henrietta (Hattie) Bowles, wife of Alexander Bowles (nee Armstrong) and the Aunt of the boy getting married. Probably the Bowles was written Bool with an unclosed B by the registrar and was then transcribed as Rool. > > From: Linne Gravestock <linne@gravestock.name> > Date: 2005/02/10 Thu AM 03:53:25 CST > To: BOWLES-L@rootsweb.com > Subject: Alexander Bowles , Ontario, Canada, 1883 > > ===================================================================== > Match: Bowles > Source: ONTARIO-L@rootsweb.com > From: "Jean Oxley" <djoxley@rbnet.com> > Subject: 1883 Marriages Frontenac > > > Some more marriages to go on line > > Format: Registration N0 & yr; (County); Grroms name, age; birthplace; > residence; status, occupation; his parents; Bride's name; age; > birthplace; residence; her parents; witnesses; marriage date and > place' > > Status= B- bachelor S- Spinster W - Widow or widower > > 003278-83; (Frontenac); Joseph VANALSTINE; 40 ; Pittsburgh; > Pittsburgh; B; farmer; s/o William & Nancy VANALSTINE; Margaret > MORRISON; 40; Ireland; Pittsburgh; W; d/o William & Rachel GIVENS; > wit: H.E.
