Hi, Adele. I'm sure that your friend appreciates your help. It's a noble undertaking to hunt for Underhills. ; -) Here's a message that I have to repeat every once in a while: that those double broken lines that you see above each posting that I do ======================== means that I received them from RootsWeb's Personalized Mailing List. I go through the batch that they send me every day and throw out the ones that we've already seen or which don't pertain to us. Then I write to the ones that have new names and addresses, inviting them to join us. Here's the important part: Many of the people I write to decline to join the Bowles list. They may be concentrating on only one surname or ancestor at the moment, and feel that they'd be sidetracked by anything else. Or Boles or Bowles is only one among a great many surnames which exist in their tree. If they don't subscribe to our list, they can neither post to it nor read anything that our members write to them via the list. So you have to write to them directly. I always include their address in a posting that I send to the Bowles list, for that reason. The Underhills that you're responding to are from a posting where the sender declined to join us, so you'll have to write to him directly. Yours with best wishes, Linne >Wonder where this Elizabeth Underhill came from... any connections >to ones in NZ who came from Birmingham. Thanks Charley and Jim. The FTM disk are a mess in Barren Co. I got a copy of the original 1810 census on the Bowls in Barren Co last week. The FTM disk has the females first and some errors on Jesse Bowls and possible Claibourne? Need to take a closer look at Barren Co. I hope the DNA test helps. G'day Randy, Just read your reply re Justice & Justies.I am not sure who this other Justies is but I think that he is related in some way but do not know how at this minute. So far have found the following spellings: Justice, Justies, Jestus,Justus. In my case here Justice, Jestus & Justus have all been the same person only the christian name has been spelt differently. Good old phonetic spelling strikes again. Note that Lisa Hall has contacted you re Yarmouth BOWLES. Lisa if you read this e mail I would also like to compare my Yarmouth BOWLES with yours. Any way, I am living in Los Amgeles County California USA. I am researching my Bowles family line. My father was Robert Heston Bowles born 1929 in Ashland County, Ohio USA. His father was Harley Edward Bowles born 1902 in Ohio USA.His parents were George Bowles and Ida May Rogers. George was born in England in 1852. His parents were Richard/Rich'd Bowles (Born 1818,England and Died in USA 1880) and Diana Smith Bowles (born 1809 Gibraltar died 1883 Thorpe Next Norwich, Norfolk England). I have a theory that this is not Diana's maiden name and that perhaps Richard was her 2nd husband as she was 32 years old when she married him at the Britis! h Embassy in Seine, Paris France in 1843. Richard came to America with Diana and there sons William and George and owned about 72 acres of land and a Tavern on the railroad tracks in New London Ohio. Interesting fact is that he sold his property to a family named Leggett in Ohio. There are Bowles and Leggett marriages in Great Yarmouth England and I have to wonder again If I may find a connection there. I show records of who may be my Richard and family in Great Yarmouth. I believe he came by running a tavern from experience as I see there were a good number of taverns owned by Bowles Relatives. Just off the beaten path, did you know that Charles Bowles aka Black Bart is a Bowles from Great Yarmouth?! He would fit in quite well with some of my kin! Look forward to hearing from you. Hello, I would very much like to share info. I have just returned from a local LDS family history center where I ordered some Norwich Microfishe and films. It is a little frustrating at times to not be able to get my hands on the records to confirm and check things out but as a fellow genealogist told me "The joy is in the discovery". What country are you in ? Best Regards, R.L.Bowles-Meentzen Lisa Hall <lisa_jay_hall@hotmail.com> wrote:Hi - I have some Yarmouth Bowles in my line - get back to me if you wish to compare notes. My address is still the same. Just returned from Tombstone Arizona, and visited BOOTHILL Cemetery where (James) FRANK BOWLES, is buried. You are now able to purchase a post card of his grave site. On the postcard it says: TOMBSTONE ARIZONA FRANK BOWLES Frank Bowles' horse became frightened and threw him off. This caused a rifle to discharge and badly injured his knee. He lay in camp for several weeks without medical attention. When friends brought him to a doctor. it was to late. The inscription on his tombstone reads, " Remember me as you are. so once was I and as I am. you soon will be. Remember me." **************** Postcards are available to purchase at the Gift Shop there at Boothill. ******************************************* Great picture of the grave site. It seems to be one of the most popular tombstone to photograph. It's the only one to have a fence around it. **************** It was great to visit the area where they mined copper & silver. Leathel, check out this page. it has several spellings for possible Bowles'es. http://www.morg.lib.in.us/genasist/landsal1.html Ludema Bowles -------- Original Message -------- ==> From: "Leathel Bowles" <LEATHEL@worldnet.att.net> ==> Date: Wed, 23 Feb 2005 21:24:23 -0500 Hi Dale, been in Barren Co for a couple days.I'm going to send this to you and the list, maybe someone can add to it.Some of this information I have, some is information from other reseachers that they have sent me or the list.I'll start with Thomas Bowles that died in Henrico Co.He wrote his will Nov.19,1783 and died soon after. He list his children as: Thomas, Issac(Jesse), Sarah, Resalinda, Christiana, and Mary. Mary married John Winn Jr. Some of their children moved to Barren Co,Ky. Isaac Bowles married Mary Bowles daughter of William Bowles a brother to Thomas Bowles, who died in 1783, and moved to KY ( I have no record of this). Christiana married Hezekial Winn. The son Thomas Bowles died before 1817 ( My guess 1800), so he is not your Thomas Bowles born 1761 and died 1839. Thomas born 1761 left a will naming his children (I don't have the will). Some of his children moved to Barren Co. IF I am correct with my guess the Thomas Bowles who died in 1800 is the son of Thomas Bowles d.1783. Thomas d.1800 had a child Emily who married Asa Gardener and moved to Barren Co. So far we have: 1.The grandchildren of Thomas Bowles who died 1783 moving to Barren Co. 2. Thomas Bowles born 1761 children moving to Barren Co. ( My guess is Thomas is a son of Thomas Bowles a son of William and Deborah Tinsley?) 3. Thomas Bowles child Emily moving to Barren Co. Next we have Thomas Bowles of Chesterfield Co, Va whose son Thomas b.1775 moved to Cumberland Co. Then some of Thomas b.1775 children moved into Barren Co. Then we have Thomas Phillip Bowles family moving to Barren Co after his death. Dale, I hope this helps. Everyone feel free to correct anything that they disagree with. My problem is I don't know how many or which ones Elijah Bowles b.1761 is related to? Leathel,
