Hi all, I just read a booklet by the name of: Scrabbeltown by Alice Brayton. Which is now Swansea, MA I have to say it is one of the neatest little books i have read.. could not put it down. I am not related to anyone but I do research for a couple who do.. The setting is: Year of 1948 a barrel ( i assume like a whiskey barrel) was found in an attic with 4,000 pieces of paper in it.. sealed up from when Israel Brayton closed up this trading business in ca 1832. Alice is telling this as a story.. and is very interesting.. None of these facts had ever been in print before this. Can you even imagine finding a box, let alone a barrel.. now i know some have but not the majority. I got a copy online for $8.. you might, if you are interested, try: bibliofind; bookfinders; ABE.. which for those who do not know.. are book search engines. OR try to get it interlibrary loan to see if it is a book you would want~ There is an index of Weavers who lived on the East Bank of the Taunton River (on territory now called Fall River) and an index: Weavers living on the farms and in the villages west of the Taunton River and an index in general but not necessarily including the weavers listed in the first 2.. I will do lookups to tell you if a name is there.. but the book is written in a fashion not conducive to writing what is in the book.. or finding the name on the page.. you have to read the page each time. Please submit up to 3 names only in one email. There are a few names that go throughout the book.. those being... of course, Israel Brayton. William Luther, Dexter Wheeler, surname of Anthony and many more.. but bare in mind this is a 5x7 booklet, 72 pages long.. so not huge by any means. Let me know if anyone of you get this and read it.. to share opinions on this~ and Enjoy~ Brenda K. Wolfgram Moore [email protected]
