This is another old note. The reason I'm forwarding to the list is because in cleaning up my old files, I am realizing how many Bower(s) lines are missing from the Patriarch's page on the Bowers DNA project. Not only is this line not listed, but neither is William Pitt Bowers of NC & TN, and James Bowers of Montgomery Co., TN, a Rev. War patriot from NJ. Maybe Robert Strong can tell us if it's possible for current researchers to post their line to the Patriarch page, as we did early in the project, and consider DNA testing in the future or for some other descendant who comes along and wants to do the test. Donna -------- Original Message -------- Subject: [BOWER-L] Hans Bauer of Berks, PA NOT Hans Baur of Oberhofen, CH Resent-Date: Sat, 6 Mar 1999 22:18:31 -0800 (PST) Resent-From: BOWER-L@rootsweb.com Date: Sun, 7 Mar 1999 01:16:04 -0500 From: Mary Neff <MARYNEFF@prodigy.net> To: BOWER-L@rootsweb.com My balloon popped! I have always believed the assumption, made by Lister O. Weiss ("Trail of the Pioneers" published 1952) and others that the Hans Bauer and wife Anne who settled in Berks County, PA before 1717 were the same people as Hans Baur and Anne Willener of Oberhofen and Sigriswil, Switzerland, respectively. NOT! The documentation to refute this assumption was published by Michael Georg de Boer in 1947 in an article in Berner Zeitschrift für Geschichte und Heimatkunde called "Vom Thunersee zum Sappemeer: ein Täufer- und Auswandererschicksal aus drei Jahrhunderten." I have summarized the story in English on a page at my web site: http://pages.prodigy.net//maryneff/Baur.htm . Now I challenge the Hans Bauer of PA descendants to figure out who he really was.
