    3. This note is from 1998! Back when surname and state lists were on Indiana.edu! Remember those days?! I'm forwarding this post as it might help someone today. Course, how you obtain VA information today may have changed since 1998, but I find anything is worth a try. I was able to obtain my grandparents immigration records at no cost by calling the local courthouse which referred me to the Boston office keeping the records. One letter with details and they mailed everything to me...didn't even charge for postage. What luck but one never knows. Leave no stone unturned in genealogy! I ended up having to write to Veterans Administration in Nashville, I believe the National Cemetery. My ancestor is buried in the National Cemetery in Nashville. I hope this helps you.
