Am looking for information on Wright Johnson Bowers who was in AR during 1840 (Hempstead Co.) and 1850 (Sevier Co.). Here are my notes on him: Believe him to be the son of Nancy and Maxwell Bowers who moved to Wilson Co., TN from Nash Co., TN around 1800. This would have been their first son b. about 1798 in NC. Nancy Bowers Will (1815) shows name of son as Right J. Bowers. There is one sister Elizabeth b. NC b. 1799 and another Rachel b. 1801 in SC. The SC is a mystery. Don't know if they stopped there on the way to TN or moved to SC first and then on to TN later. Cannot find whereabouts of Maxwell either. Nancy d. 1815 in Wilson Co., TN. Perhaps she left SC after Maxwell died. Another Bowers mystery! *Wright J. Bowers, along with Allen M. Oakley and James W. Finley, purchased 160 acres of land now in Hempstead Co., AR on March 1, 1843. This was Cash-Sale, Govt Land Ofc. Accession/Serial # AR1180, Document #2455. Is this same person? *Marriage - Johnson Bowers to Polly Wilson, Feb. 4, 1830 by Allen M. Oakley, JP, BB-155 as listed in Hempstead Co. AR Marriage REcords 1817 to 1875 compiled by Bobbie Jones McLane & Capitola Hensley Glazner, 1969. *1840 census - Salene TWP, Hempstead Co., AR, Pg. 169 Johnson Bowers Males - 2 age 5-10 1 age 30-40 Females - 1 age Under 5 1 age 20-30 *1850 census - Franklin TWP, Sevier Co. AR, Pg. 195, Oct 16 Johnson Bowers, age 52, Male, Farmer, Vlaue of Real Estate $300 b. NC Lavinia, age 24, b. AR (2nd wife or daughter?) Jinsey, age 12, b. TX George, age 8, b. AR Someone named W. H. Bowers died Sevier Co., 1851, Book 3, Pg. 460. Could there be a mistake on the name and it is really W. J. Bowers? Conducted a search on Heritage Quest of the 1860 and 1870 census records for Johnson Bowers with all name possibilities with no results. Could not find the children in 1850 either.
