Donna Hinson I am looking at a Bowers in Attala Co., MS: Leonard Bowers. Obviously, there are some errors in age you'll notice in the census records I list below. But from 1840 to 1860, it is obvious that it's the same family. By the 1860 census, Leonard has died. My reason for looking at this family was the son, John W. Bowers. I have a property in Grenada Co., MS deeded to a J. W. Bowers and so far, this is the only J. W. Bowers I've found, but I can make no connections with this family as yet. J. W. is listed in the 1880 census of Attala Co. MS so the family obviously stayed in that area. My Bowers migrated from TN to Yalobusha Co. MS by 1837. Since county lines changed quite often, they have been in Carroll Co., Grenada Co., and Montgomery Co. as those lines changed. Attala Co. is just south of Montgomery Co. I have not found any other Bowers families in Attala Co. except for Leonard's family. I have one male son of my gggg-grandfather (Jeremiah Bowers) who is still unknown (b. 1814-1820). Leonard does not seem to be a name that fits in my family. However, one never knows. Note Leonard was also b. TN about 1813 according to the 1850 census...if age is correct. Does anyone recognize this family as theirs? Is anyone on the list working in these counties of MS? Would appreciate any information on this family. Census listings: 1840 Attala Co.
