I've done both the Ancestry and FTDNA atDNA tests and a Bowers male relative did the yDNA test on FTDNA.  Every holiday season, all the genealogy testing companies usually offer a reduced special price. Several of us researching Bower/Bowers and variants were talking about the fact that not enough of the Bowers clan have tested.  If you're interested, check for the specials during the holidays or let your families know that might be a potential gift.  Actually, you an join Ancestry without signing up for a costly subscription and do a tree.  Others who have a subscription can see your tree and contact you.  Then if you decide to test, you can link the test to your tree.  FTDNA allows all who are DNA matches to see each others trees.  FTDNA is the only company I'm aware of that also does the yDNA test which requires a male of the same surname.  Please know I'm not posting this because I earn any money whatsoever.  I would just like to see more matches from our surname.  We do not have a very large database on the FTDNA Bowers project (yDNA) where other surnames have many more participants.
