Harry, Very interesting!!!!!!!! MMMmmm ..........VA and MD are not so very far apart! James 1850.......Don't even have a suspicion as to his fathers name? Oh what a puzzle...... I'll keep my eyes open for certain.....The "Irish" caught my interest...... Sue
Harry, The best information has our Bowers coming from Isle of Wight, VA...then to .."Bute Co", Granville Co, Franklin Co, NC (the best I can figure with all the changes in Dist.s and Co.s it's all pretty much the same place in NC) Then they seem to have all moved together to Gibson and Weakley Co. TN.One brother stopped in Gibson Co and three went on to Weakley Co., TN. My father-in-law said he came from German/Irish ancestry. I haven't seen where yet with my research......maybe it will come to light. Who is your ancester that came from Ireland? Wouldn't hurt to know, never can tell we Bowers may all be related???? Thanks, Sue

Hello, A while back on The ShipsList there was a discussion about what could have driven people to undertake such dangerous voyages in which many, especially children and old people died.I began to wonder. I have so often heard my ancestors were driven out of France into England and out of England and Ireland to the New World because of religious persecution, yet it suddenly seemed so vague a term. In searching to understand what my ancestors may have gone through I came across a remarkable site that answered my questions and has a huge wealth of material to aquaint anyone with the circumstances our early ancestors faced. It's called: "The American Colonist's Library" "A Treasury of Primary Documents" and it's at: http://www.universitylake.org/primarysources.html It's fascinating to read historical documents, I think that's part of the lure of tracking down our bloodlines.I think anyone interested in genealogy has at least some interest in history and this is certainly a point of crossing between the two. I'm looking for information on Mary Bowers (b. 3/1/1778) who married George Brumbaugh (b. 3/12/1780). Unfortunately that's all the dates I have on both of them and I don't know where they were born. I do know that one of their sons is Isaac Brumbaugh (b. 4/26/1802 d. 11/4/1871) who married Susanna Beightel. If anyone can help me please feel free to email me at: [email protected] Thanks a million, Cindy on, Cindy
