    3. Yes, David, please post. I have some of my line that also went to Illinois. I suggest you also post to the Bowers list too. There are two lists......Bower and Bowers and someone on the other list may be interested or connected to you. I added it to this note so you can "reply to all" to make it easier. If anyone has any different info, please let me know. The census records for 1860 and 1870 for Margaret and Wm. Donahoo (there are variant spellings of this surname as well) show her as b. TN around 1822-1824 (1860 census Pg. 884/885 for Daviess Co., KY and 1870 census Pg. 342 also for Daviess Co., KY). There is a slight discrepancy on the age on the census records but she does fit the 1840 census for Jeremiah Bowers, of Todd Co., KY pg. 244. A female child is listed for them age 15-20 (b. 1820-1825). By the 1850 census, Jeremiah and wife Margaret, still in Todd Co., but the daughter is not in the household. The marriage for Margaret and Wm. Donahoo occurs 1847 in Muhlenberg Co. KY, so she would not be in the 1850 census of parents by then. All children of Jeremiah and Margaret were born Sumner and Wilson Co., TN so the TN birthplace and date seem to fit. I would still like to find the 1850 and 1880 census for Margaret and Wm. Donahoo. Also, Margaret and Wm. have a child named Nancy, which is a common name, but also would be the name of Margaret's grandmother and her sister. So, had a sister Nancy, her mother was Margaret and her mother's mother was Nancy. Everything seems to fit and Muhlenberg Co. was not that far away from Todd Co. KY for a marriage. Moving to Daviess Co. is not that unusual and in looking at the other children of Jeremiah and Margaret, others moved to IL and one to MS. Only one son, Thomas, remained in nearby Logan Co. and Nancy who married Isaiah Trout remained in Todd KY, according to my research. But I am still missing one son! Born TN 1815-1820. Another puzzle! So, Carolyn, by your note, Lazarus b. 1841 would be born too early to be the child of Margaret and Wm. Donahoo and both Margaret & Wm. are b. TN in 1820's so already in the U.S. earlier than the date you mention for Lazarus. Carolyn, try posting what you have on Lazarus....his children, dates of birth, place, place of residence, etc. Maybe someone will recognize him. Donna

    3. I am trying to find info on my g-grandfather's parents. My g-grandfather was Leonard William Bowers, born March 12, 1861 in Philadelphia PA, died Jan 23, 1923 in Norristown, PA. In the 1970 census he's living in Philadelphia with his mother Rebecca along with a Joseph Shermer. The post office is listed as Andorra, which I believe is close to the Roxborough/Manayunk area. I find him again in 1900 with his mother in Bridgeport, PA, and in 1910 and 1920 in Norristown, PA. His mother Rebecca died in 1907. In the 1900-1902 Norristown Directory, Rebecca is listed still in Bridgeport and as the widow of John. In the 1880 census for Bridgeport I found a Rebecca with son Leonard, both the right ages, but with the last name DeWees. I believe these may be my Rebecca and Leonard, maybe either listed by the wrong surname, or possibly it was Rebecca's maiden name? I also found a death certificate in Philadelphia for a John Bowers who died October 31, 1863, married, occupation soldier. In the censuses for Leonard, his father is listed as born in Germany in 1910 census and Holland in 1920 census. in 1900 there is also a Violio Carr listed with Leonard and Rebecca as niece. Leonard was an only child, so I can only assume she was a niece of Rebecca. Violio is listed as born Aug 1888. Does any of this sound familiar to anyone> Deb Stanish Reading, PA

    3. Gary & List, Bartlett Deans Bowers m. Mary Mahaffey in 1823 in Wilson Co., TN. They moved to Yaloubusha Co. MS around 1837. They were in the 1840 census and thereafter in the surrounding counties as the county lines changed around their land (Carroll, Grenada, Montgomery). Bartlett's parents were Jeremiah Bowers b. 1768 VA and Margaret Eason b. 1782 Nash Co., NC. There are many Bowers in Wilson Co. area as well as in Davidson Co. and Montgomery Co., TN. To date, the Bowers in DAvidson Co and Montgomery Co. are not related to mine....not unless its several generations further back from Jeremiah with the exception of John Bowers d. 1803. His will was proven in court by Jeremiah but the relationship is not known at this time...might be father or brother. There are many Bowers of Wilson Co. that I have not been able to link to mine but feel there was some relationship. I've done a lot of research in NC, TN, and MS and always hoping to discover someone who ties into this line or who has info on the "mystery" people in these areas who either are related or should be eliminated from further study. Hence my question regarding Lemuel Bowers of Attala Co. MS and if anyone has any further information on him. I'm not sure who Lemuel's parents were. It's possible he descends from one of the Davidson Co., TN Bowers, some of which go back to NJ. It would be great to find someone else working on MS Bowers! Below is some further information on Bartlett's family. Bartlett Bowers and Mary Mahaffey's children: 1. Unknown male child b. abt. 1825 in TN 2. Alfred Maxey Bowers b. Oct 3, 1829 in TN 3. Mildred N. Bowers b. 1833 in TN 4. Jeremiah M. Bowers b. Nov 1835 in TN 5. George Robert Bowers b. March 15, 1837 in TN 6. Matilda Ann Bowers b. Dec 17, 1839 in MS 7. Elizabeth Bowers b. 1842 in MS Alfred and George went to Dallas Co. (Dallas) TX after the Civil War. Let's post our brick walls or what we're working on and maybe we can make some connections/solve some puzzles. I will outline my current question below. Donna Hinson I am looking at a Bowers in Attala Co., MS: Leonard Bowers. Obviously, there are some errors in age you'll notice in the census records I list below. But from 1840 to 1860, it is obvious that it's the same family. By the 1860 census, Leonard has died. My reason for looking at this family was the son, John W. Bowers. I have a property in Grenada Co., MS deeded to a J. W. Bowers and so far, this is the only J. W. Bowers I've found, but I can make no connections with this family as yet. J. W. is listed in the 1880 census of Attala Co. MS so the family obviously stayed in that area. My Bowers migrated from TN to Yalobusha Co. MS by 1837. Since county lines changed quite often, they have been in Carroll Co., Grenada Co., and Montgomery Co. as those lines changed. Attala Co. is just south of Montgomery Co. I have not found any other Bowers families in Attala Co. except for Leonard's family. I have one male son of my gggg-grandfather (Jeremiah Bowers) who is still unknown (b. 1814-1820). Leonard does not seem to be a name that fits in my family. However, one never knows. Note Leonard was also b. TN about 1813 according to the 1850 census...if age is correct. Does anyone recognize this family as theirs? Is anyone on the list working in these counties of MS? Would appreciate any information on this family. Census listings: 1840 Attala Co. 3. Yes, the name is Lemuel, not Leonard. However I have had no one with the name Lemuel in my line as yet. Be careful when using the census indexes from the U.S. Genweb Transcription Project. I checked on Heritage Quest and was able to find the census records according to the Microfilm Number, Reel Number and Page number from Genweb but found that in 1840, it was NOT written as Bowars as the transcriptionist stated but was Lemuel Bowers and also Lemuel Bowers in 1850.

    3. Leonard may be Lemuel. I noticed on some of my notes, Lemuel but on some census indexes, it was listed as Leonard. I will check this further.

    3. The NC State Archives and Library has been adding family records online. They have transcribed nearly 220 Family Bible Records and the 6 volume Marriage and Death Notices from Raleigh Register and North Carolina State Gazetteer (1799-1893), The website for the digital family records is: http://statelibrary.ncdcr.gov/dimp/digital/ncfamilyrecords/family.html If interested in donating family records, particularly bible records with any dates prior to 1913, contact Druscie Simpson at Druscie.simpson@ncdcr.gov It sounds like they are interested in records that were prior to the date births/deaths were required (1913). My sister-in-law in NC sent me this info, so I don't have any further details. Hope it helps someone. Donna Hinson
