    3. Yes, the 12 marker kit is currently available at a substantial discount. The problem, though, is that very often the 12 marker test is inconclusive in establishing a meaningful genealogical relationship. In my experience, the 12 marker test is most useful in disproving a relationship. To prove a relationship, even the 25 marker test is often inconclusive. Only the 37 marker and higher tests yield meaningful matches. So, if one finds a match at 12 markers, you will most likely want to upgrade. It currently costs $49 to upgrade from 12 to 25 markers and $99 to upgrade from 12 to 37 markers. Of course, if your 12 marker results do not show any Bowers/Bower/Bauer/etc. matches, you've saved, at least until a match occurs, the extra cost of the higher marker kits. Just something to consider when deciding how to get the most bang for the buck. See here for more info: http://www.familytreedna.com/landing/Y-DNA12-Promo.aspx We need more Bower/Bowers participants in DNA testing. So many of us have no matches but in addition, our Bowers DNA group is very small for a name that is so common. 3. Thought I would forward to the Bowers List. Sorry for any duplication. I had a male Bowers in my family contribute his DNA for the test. My line is on the FTDNA page, B-34 is my number. Unfortunately, I have no match with other Bower/Bowers yet. http://azstrong.tripod.com/bowersdnaproject/web_patriarchs_3nov2012.htm On 1/5/2013 5:16 PM, Barbara Bower wrote: > I have just done the FTDNA test. 3. The tree below appears on the Bowers DNA Project Patriarchs page: http://azstrong.tripod.com/bowersdnaproject/web_patriarchs_3nov2012.htm The email address attached to it is no longer valid. Does this tree belong to anyone on the Bowers/Bower list perhaps? It doesn't appear that the person who posted it ever did the DNA test. That's unfortunate since it appears to be a an extensive Bowers line that many claim. There are also several people who have done the DNA test but not posted their earliest known ancestor or a short family tree. Maybe they wish to remain totally incognito! It would help those of us still researching, especially those of us who do not match anyone's DNA, if those people would submit their earliest known ancestor. Most of us know our DNA doesn't match them, but we don't know who those Bowers ancestors are!! Many of us go about looking for that elusive ancestor (our brickwalls) and is the reason we did the DNA test. But if we don't know who is represented by that DNA, then we are possibly spending a lot of time looking at records to which we have no relation. I can understand not posting a name if the individual is still alive, but if it is an ancestor deceased, I know I would appreciate a name being posted so I could eliminate that individual in my research. The Bowers DNA project is simply not a project unless we Bowers descendants make it a project. It would also be nice if those who have posted a tree would update their email addresses if they have changed and not been updated. Let's make it a resolution to update our Bowers project page for 2013! If anyone belongs to the tree below, please contact me. Thanks! 3. Do you know anything more abt Benjamin Bowers 1859-1910 and Anna Anderson b. 1861? They maybe the key to solving this puzzle... no doubt many members of the early Bowers from PA & NC headed to or through OH over the generations... If not get a hold of the bowers family homestead website & get some scans & what information you do have up there too, somebody will ferret it out.

    2. Shelley, How very wonderful of you. How I wish I could say they are my family but am sure they are not. My Bowers came from North Carolina to Mississippi and then to Texas. I am going to forward your letter to a descendant of my great-grandfather Bowers' brother. They are from Iowa but she may know of someone who might be a relative. Isn't it fun to find these old photographs and be able to send to family or at least send them copies. I did that recently and got so much satisfaction from it. Unfortunately, most of the photographs one finds in antique shops, other are not identified. I am hoping someone finds the old Bibles that my aunt gave away to Goodwill or one of the thrift stores in Dallas. Thanks again for asking and I surely hope you find a relative of these people and can return the photograph to them. Lena Stone Criswell -----Original Message----- From: Shelley Cardiel <cardiels@comcast.net> To: BOWERS <BOWERS@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wed, Oct 10, 2012 9:24 am Subject: [BOWERS] BOWERS Family photograph I have "rescued" an old photograph of Roy, Bessie, Carolyn, and Roy BOWERS Jr. taken at a Studio in Newark, Ohio. The photograph was likely taken in the early 1900's with the couple in their 20's or 30's and the children infant to 4 years old. Someone indicates on the photograph that Roy died and Bessie remarried "Mr. ROSS" who was the father of Melissa ROSS. Based on limited research I was able to gather the following information regarding this family: Roy Franklin BOWERS was b. 4 Aug 1883 in Newark, OH to parents Benjamin BOWERS (1859-1910) and Anna ANDERSON (b. 1861). Roy married Bessie Wirt WHITEHEAD (1883-1955). Their son Ray Franklin BOWERS Jr. was b. 1910 and d. 1952. Roy Sr. died 28 Apr 1914 in Newark, OH and is buried along with the other family members in the Cedar Hill Cemetery in Newark, OH. Bessie Wirt WHITEHEAD b. 15 Jul 1883 was the daughter of Ezekiel Francis WHITEHEAD (1860-1938) and Carrie Kate HOWARD (1863-1899). After the death of Bessie's first husband Roy, she married Edward A. ROSS (1878-1965). The couple had a daughter, Melissa Bernice ROSS (1918-1972), she married into the HULL Family. Carolyn Susanna BOWERS was b. 30 Aug 1906 in OH to Roy and Bessie. Carolyn married Clarence Graham DAVIS (1900-1965 son of A. V. DAVIS and Teresa EMERY) on 8 Feb 1924 in Monroe, MI and together they had three children including, Albert Franklin; Susanna Carolyn; and Billy Graham DAVIS, all born between 1924 and 1928.
