    3. My Charles died in 1958 in Portland, Or. Birth name was Charles Augustine Hasson, adopted by Edward and Mary Bowers of Cameron, Co PA. He married Bertha Mae Worthington in Portland, OR. They had one son, my father Howard Edward Bowers. Sounds like a different Bowers family. Sorry I can’t help. 1. [BOWERS] [EXTERNAL] JOHNSON - BOWERS Family Photograph Album
    2. Shelley Cardiel
    3. I've "rescued" an old Photograph Album containing photographs from the JOHNSON Family of Minnesota including identified photographs of: Theodore JOHNSON and his wife - St. Paul, MN Great Great Grandmother Karl & Anna JOHNSON "Dad's Brother" Five JOHNSON children including Floyd, George, Arnold, Edith, and Roland Five JOHNSON children as adults with Mother Floyd & Edith JOHNSON dated 1914 in Sturgeon Lake, MN Floyd & George JOHNSON dated 1914 in Sturgeon Lake, MN Dad's sister Euglena in Sweden Prayer Card and Obit for George T. JOHNSON b. 9 Aug 1910 in Sturgeon Lake, MN to parents Anna and Charles JOHNSON, married to Martha SUISTE in Reno, NV and moved to Weiser, ID in 1948 where he purchased his farm. His daughter is identified as Zetta J. WOOD (husband - James K. WOOD) and grandchildren, Vickie COALE; Gary WOOD; Tammy VANDERGRIFT; Sandie AMES; John WOOD; and Theresa NEWKIRK all of Boise, ID. He is also survived by a niece Marcella GUAY of Maple Valley, WA. The album includes a total of 39 photographs including both portraits and snap shots + printed copies of some of the portraits along with the prayer card and obituary for George. Based on limited research I was able to locate the following information regarding the family: Theodore JOHNSON was b. 1876 and died 1940 and is buried in the Pine Grove Cemetery in Rock Creek, MN. Anna JOHNSON was b. 9 May 1881 and died 24 Sept 1943 and is buried in the Pine Grove Cemetery in Rock Creek, MN. Floyd, George, Arnold, Edith, and Roland JOHNSON are the children of Charley E. JOHNSON (1866-1919) and Anna NELSON (b. 1886). Floyd Eberhard or Aberhard JOHNSON (1909-1985); George Theodore JOHNSON (b. 1910); Arnold R. JOHNSON (b. 1912); Edith Elizabeth JOHNSON (b. 7 Sept 1913 in Pine, MN); Roland Fridolph or Fredolph JOHNSON (1914-1979); and then the six child, Gordon Clifford JOHNSON (1918-1918). I did find burials which may be a match to Charles and Anna, though details are slightly different: Charles O. JOHNSON b. 20 Apr 1962 in USA and died 16 Jul 1916 in Pine Co., MN and buried in the Pine Grove Cemetery in Rock Creek, MN. His wife Anna C. JOHNSON was b. 1 Jun 1963 in the USA and died 22 Nov 1958 in Pine Co., MN and is buried with Charles in the Pine Grove Cemetery. Floyd Aberhard or Eberhard JOHNSON was born 4 Apr 1909 in Cloquet or Pine, MN and he married Loretta M. LESTER (b. 1912). Floyd died 16 Jul 1985 in Renton, WA. George T. JOHNSON was b. 9 Aug 1910 and died 16 Jun 1995 and is buried in the Hillcrest Cemetery in Weiser, ID. Edith Elizabeth JOHNSON married Lloyd Elwood SCHAUER (1908-2002) and they had a daughter, Marjorie Ann SCHAUER (1930-2002). Roland Fredolph JOHNSON was b. 12 Sept 1914 in Pine, MN and married Margaret Ione BOWERS (1918-2008) and he died 17 Feb 1979 in Clarissa, MN. Martha Helen SUISTE was b. 25 Nov 1910 in Butter Creek, OR to parents Joseph Napoleon SUISTE (1864-1925) and Wilhelmina Josephine FIX (1870-1935). Martha was one of 12 children born to this couple including, Louis Henry; Andrew Joseph; Lucia or Lucille Cecelia; Rose Louisa; Leo Anthony; Agnes Elizabeth; Albert Lawrence; Emily Regina; Martha Helen; Mary Patricia; Esther Ann or Anna; and Edwin Francis SUISTE, all born between 1899 and 1914. Martha married George T. JOHNSON (1910-1995) on 14 Sept 1941. It appears that Martha was previously married to Neil Orven POSTON (1907-1993). Martha died 20 Sept 1999 in Boise, ID and is buried in the Hillcrest Cemetery in Weiser, ID. George and Martha had a daughter, Zetta Janet JOHNSON b. 27 Sept 1936 in Leadville, CO. Zetta married James K. WOOD in 1957 and together they had 6 children. Zetta died 2 Jan 2017 in Boise, ID and is buried in the Morris Hill Cemetery in Boise, ID. Since Zetta's birthdate is prior to their marriage I am not sure of her parentage, could she be Martha's daughter from previous marriage, or George's from a previous marriage, or an adoption, or something else. I am hoping to return the album to family and would appreciate you contacting me at your earliest convenience regarding this family and the album. Thanks, Shelley

    2. Shelley Cardiel
    3. I've "rescued" an old photograph of Ray Augustus ROPES which was taken sometime in the 1870's or 1880's with Ray appearing to be about 9 years old at the time. Based on limited research I was able to recover the following information regarding Ray and his family: Ray Augustus or Augustine ROPES was b. 3 Feb 1871 in Eldorado, IA to parents Benjamin Augustus or Hardy ROPES (1814-1884) and Mary A. TRACY (1836-1879). Benjamin was married previously and had 5 additional children including, Emma Amanda; Elson Benjamin; George Francis; William Bowers; and Walter Pushee ROPES, all born between 1839 and 1856. Ray died 25 Apr 1888 in Boston, MA and is buried in the Mount Auburn Cemetery in Cambridge, MA. He is buried in the CLARKE Family plot including members of the CLARKE, BOWERS, ROPES, and FOX Families. I am hoping to locate someone from this ROPES Family so that the photograph can be returned to its rightful place, with family. If you are a member of this family, or you know someone who might be, please contact me. Thanks, Shelley

    3. Thank You CS, Based on the birth year of their first born child we are certain that William and Sabra were married by 1843. It is interesting that there is such a disparity between their ages in 1850. Sabra was 32 and William was 63. We have surmised that it is possible that he had already been married once before. We know for a fact that she had because she brought her two young sons with her. Sabra was part Cherokee and we have researched her entire family. Thanks for the suggestions but we have touched all available online sources. 3. Rory, My Jeremiah Bowers was born in VA but in 1767.  County unknown at this time.  But I've found a lot of Bowers in Norfolk Co. VA but can't figure them all out.  Think Norfolk is a possibility for some of our Bowers.  My Jeremiah was in Nash Co., NC by 1800 for certain.  Lots of Bowers there too but they kept on migrating, next stop TN. Here's a bit of info I've collected: NORFOLK CO., VIRGINIA In 1820 census, there were the following Bowers: Thomas Bowers, 2 Males age 16-26 (1 engaged in Manufacture) Carr Bowers, 2 Males age 16-26 (2 engaged in Manufacture) James Bowers, 1 Male to age 10, 1 Male 10-16, 1 Male 26-45, 1 Female to age 10, 2 Females 45+ William Bowers, 1 Male to age 10, 1 Male 16-26, 1 Male 45+, 1 Female 26-45 Jeremiah Bowers, age 16-26, 1 Female to age 10, 1 Female 16-26, (3 engaged in Agriculture) The book Norfolk Co. VA Tithables 1766-1780 compiled by Elizabeth B. Wingo & W. Bruce Wingo show both Bowers and Deans families.  It is known that both families were in Nash Co., NC in the late 1700's.  (Nancy Deans m. Samuel Eason and later m. Maxwell Bowers. Nancy is the mother of Margaret Eason who m. Jeremiah Bowers.) Names appearing in Norfolk Co. VA Tithables 1766-1780 were: 1767-James, Maxmillian, Bartley, John, and Robert Bowers 1767-Daniel, Lamuell, Thomas, Solomon, and James(Sr.), William(Sr.), Willis, and William(Jr.) Deans 1768-Bartley, Robert, John and James Bowers 1768-Solomon, William(Jr.), James, Lamuell, Thomas, William, and Willis Deans 1770-Bartlett and Max Bowers 1771-Bartle and Maximilian Bowers 1774-Bartlet Bowars Another county is Southampton Co., VA While the dates for both counties are earlier than you mention, there seemed to be many of the same names...you and I are researching.  I have the names James, Maximillian, Bartley, Robert, Jeremiah, and William. Hope this might be of some help to you but for years, I've not been able to determine without a doubt that Norfolk Co. is the right county.  I need a will but not found any, or even property division. 2. Rory, Have you search on Familysearch.org and FindAGrove.com? My Lazarus Fracis Bowers b about 1840 in Germany. He arrived here aboutor after 1845 in census 1850 or 1860 something else. My brick wall is his parents and sibling. He was married a Martha Clark in Indiana in 1866 and a few children before moved into Missour and added more children. Do you have William's parents and siblings, uncle, aunts and more families? 1. [BOWERS] HAMMER - BOWERS Family Photograph
    2. Shelley Cardiel
    3. I've "rescued" an old photograph of U. Grant HAMMER which was taken at the Fritz Studio in Reading, PA in the 1890's when Grant was just 11 weeks old. He is indicated as weighing 9 3/4 lbs. and is 23 inches long. Based on limited research I was able to locate the following information regarding U. Grant and his family: U. Grant HAMMER was b. 29 Apr 1892 in Pennsylvania to parents Horace H. HAMMER (1864-1948) and Kate Estella BOWERS or BAUER (1865-1912). He had at least two siblings, Carrier HAMMER (1887-1888) and Hellen HAMMER (1889-1889). U. Grant died 20 Jul 1892 in Reading, PA and is buried in the Charles Evans Cemetery in Reading, PA. I am hoping to find someone from this HAMMER Family so that the photograph can be returned to their care. If you are a member of this family, or you know someone who might be, please contact me. Thanks, Shelley

    1. [BOWERS] Ancestry DNA Test discounted to $59
    2. Donna Bowers Hinson
    3. Wanted to let everyone know I saw a special being run by Ancestry at $59 + $9.95 shipping.  The test is usually $99 + shipping. If you tested on FTDNA, you might want to consider testing on Ancestry because FTDNA's test results are not transferable to Ancestry.  FTDNA does allow transferring Ancestry's results to their company.  I tested several years ago on FTDNA but decided to test on Ancestry too. I'm finding more "cousins" on Ancestry but unfortunately not anyone who has actually gone further back than Jeremiah Bowers b. 1768 VA. There were 4 other early Bowers in Wilson County, TN besides Jeremiah who lived in Nash Co., NC before moving to TN.  They were Jesse, Benjamin, Giles, and William.  No one can figure out how, or if, they are related.  Giles in Wilson Co. was not the Giles of Franklin Co. NC however and to our knowledge was not one of his children either.  We were hoping descendants of theirs would test. There is one more Bowers who was in Nash Co. NC:  Maxwell Bowers. He married Nancy Ann Deans Eason, a widow with 4 children. They had 3 more children:  Wright, Elizabeth and Rachel Bowers.  Rachel was b. in SC in 1801, I believe possibly on their way to TN.  The children were eventually in Wilson Co. TN. Go to Ancestry.com to find their special price.  You can also open a free account and do a tree but don't be tricked into paying for a subscription when you open an account.  They will often say 30 days free.  I had an account to simply use their boards and Findagrave, etc.  You can't see other people's trees without a subscription.  If you decide on a subscription, wait till they offer the $99 special. I think you can share trees with invites without doing the subscription too.  Anyone who knows, correct me if I'm wrong.
