    3. A review of the LDS' 1880 U.S. National Census & Index CD ROM was in the recent issue of the Clayton Library Friends newsletter (Houston, TX public genealogy library) and it sounds like it is worth ordering. See www.familysearch.com for more info. It's a total of 55 cd's for $49.99, is the entire census (all of the U.S.) and an index that is more complete than the Soundex which listed only households with children ten or younger. You can search by not only surname, but by first name. For example, if the first name of one of the daughters is Mary and she has left home and not listed in the 1880 household of her parents and you don't know who she married, you can search by "Mary" and possibly find which household she is now living in. You can search for neighbors of your ancestors as well. From what the review says, the quality of the data was impressive. They chose 10 households and compared the records to the actual census and they were all correct. It's search engine apparently automatically brings up various spellings of the surname as well. I've ordered a copy. If anyone already has it, maybe they will let us know what they think.
