My neighbors are going door-to-door, to see if we have all heard from our husbands, most of whom work in the Wall Street area. I said I had heard from mine and asked if she knew of anyone who hadn't. She hung her head and nodded, "Yes". It seems the family around the corner has a dad who works on the top floor of one of the towers that collapsed...and it is presumed that those children have lost their father and the wife her companion. The neighbor right next door came over an hour ago, with red-rimmed eyes. Her husband works in the building right next door and she, the mother of two babies, had not been able to reach him. I sat with her until the blessed phone call came...he was OK and got out safely. The neighborhood is eeriely silent. No planes going to or coming from Newark airport...not even much vehicular traffic...a silence everywhere for the thousands and thousands that are gone or suffering... Lynne
