Hello List, While searching for ancestors in Ohio, William & Elenor Irwin Bowers (births circa 1800), I have been concentrating on Brown & Clermont Counties. I found a BAUER Cemetery in a list of cemeteries in Union Township, Brown County, Ohio. I posted an online query to Brown County and had this response: "Ohio Cemeteries" compiled by the Ohio Genealogical Society 1998: Bauer Family Cemetery: Behind Bauer homestead west of Ripley on US 52. "Cemetery Inscriptions of Brown County, Ohio Book 1" Bauer Family Cemetery, Union Township "This small cemetery is located upon a hill, back of the old Bauer homestead, just off Rt 52, W. of Levanna. It is enclosed with an iron fence." In a private email, I received the following: "Cemetery Inscriptions of Brown County, Ohio, Volume 1" complied by Linda H. Wilson 1976-1977 Bauer Family Cemetery, Union Township copied July 1976 BAUER Conrad 10/1804-10/2/1858 Sybilla-und Kindern no dates (Gewidmet von der trauemden Gattin) Also mentioned was a tombstone that was found being used as a doorstep and was said to have been found just up the hill from the Bauer cemetery. SEYLER Mat 7/30/1858-8/18/1858 a.0-0-18 Since this is not the burial site of William & Elenor Bowers that I had hoped to find, I am posting to this list as someone may be searching for Conrad & Sybilla. I do not have Conrad in my line that I am aware of, but his birthdate is close to that of my William. Possibly brothers??? Does anyone know anything more about the reference to "old Bauer homestead" west of Levanna, Ohio? Can anyone translate the German on the tombstone? Fran akabana@cs.com
