Yes, they started out as Bauer. Arthur Stephen Bowers was s/o John L. Bowers (a brother of my great-grandfather David Bower). David Bower and John L. Bowers were the only sons (out of six sons) of Stephen Gottlieb Bauer and his wife, Maria Glock. If this is your family, then you are part of my family and I want to hear more from you. Do you have a Jacob Bower in your family tree? Mine was born 1802 in MD. but don't really know where. I am from Wayne Co., OH. That is where my Jacob died.
