Death Notice, Detroit News, Thursday, May 31, 2001: BAUER,DONALD R., Born in Wyandotte, MI, March 13, 1919. Beloved father, grandfather and friend. Died May 30, 2001 at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, age 82. He served in WW II, retiring as an Air Force Major and was a pilot of a B17 bomber. Graduated from Michigan State University in 1948, Theta Chi fraternity. He was an Allstate Insurance agent for 43 years and retired at the age of 75. He was a Grosse Ile Twp. Trustee from 1968 to 1986 and Rotarian for many years. He is survived by his brother Walter Bauer, daughter Diane, sons James and Richard, and five grandchildren. Memorial service will be at Grosse Ile Presbyterian Church at 1 p.m. Friday, June 1. Remains will be placed at Arlington National Cemetery.
