>From the McLouth Times (Jefferson Co. KS) for Friday, Sept 4, 1896: "Mrs. Amos Edmonds left last Friday evening for a visit with her brother, David Smith, who resides near Topeka, and will also visit her sister, Mrs. A. B. Bowers at Eskridge. Her daughter, Mrs. William Harker, accompanied her on the trip." And this has nothing to do with genealogy, but as a bit of atmosphere of the times may be interesting: "There was all kinds of excitement in town for a little while Saturday evening: a political discussion almost precipitated a riot; it was hardly quieted down before a mule ran away with a cart, throwing the occupants out and hurting them considerably; two small boys had a fight, and another tried to break his neck by sliding down a long banister east of the Frisbie building; a dog fight ended up the evening's entertainment, and everybody went to bed feeling sure that they had gotten their money's worth. -- Meriden Tribune."
