I think part of the problem is that many of us are somewhat naive and trusting. We don't read the find print as we think everyone's values and methods are the same as ours. We have been sharing info, some for MANY years, on a genealogist to genealogist level. We want to share freely and don't stop to think that it has become a business as have most hobbies and sports these days. What most of the genealogy businesses are doing is just business. They do you a favor, you give them something and they sell it. Not an unusual process. Granted some of them are more sneaky about it than others but that's life. I'm not saying not to trust anybody but a person has to be aware here on the internet just like anywhere else. Dealing on an individual basis is usually pretty safe in this hobby but if you are dealing with a profit making entity you know they are selling something and they have to get the product "supplies" somehow. As in most of life -- don't assume anything. > I sure don't understand all the paranoia that seems to be suddenly > surfacing.
