Yep, sure am. My family went through Canton, Stark Co, Ohio. My Bowers/Bauers/Baur/Baner (I have found them with all of these spellings) came over from Darmstadt Germany @1830. BUT... I have pictures of this John Bauer, and he doesn't look like he has an ounce of German in him... most think he looks Spanish. I have a picture of him posted at http://familytreemaker.genealogy.com/users/j/o/h/Sharon-M-Johnson-CA/index.h tml?Welcome=986227619 I would love to have other opinions as to whether or not he looks German... Anyhow, by 1850, they show up living in Freeport, Stephensville County, Illinois per the 1850 Illinois census (Roll 129, Page 251, line 151) for Freeport, Stephenson County Illinois: John Bauer, 45, M, Boot and Shoe Dealer, born in Germany Margaret, ", 39 F, born in Germany ( NOTE: Margaret's maiden name was Eber... believed to be from Eberstadt Germany just outside of Darmstadt. Living next to Margaret is her brother, Jacob Eber, with his family) John ", 16, M, Clerk, born in Ohio, attended School Helena, 14, F, born in Ohio, attended school Caroline, 13, F, born in Ohio, attended school Florindina, 7, F, born in Ohio, attended school Augustus, 6, M, born in Ohio, attended school Philip, 3, M, born in Ohio My line is John Bauers, Jr. Although not documented yet, it is believed this family moved from Stephensville County, Illinois, to Nauvoo, Hancock County Illinois sometime after the 1850 census. Eventually, my line ended up in and around the St. Louis, Missouri area, as John married Prudence Hussmann there in 1857. Family stories say more information on the Bauer/Hussmann family can be found in Hermann, Missouri. The family apparently had been wine producers in Ohio and Germany... I'm have no idea how John, Sr. ended up being a Boot and Shoe Dealer in Illinois. I would love to speak with anyone who is related to any one of these Bauers. Thanks for "listening" ;-) Sharon Yuba City, CA -----Original Message----- Subject: [BOWER] Bowers of Ohio Is anyone out there researching the Bowers of Ohio? Varied spellings. Connie

I am so sorry.... try this addy... this should take you to the front page. Once there, scroll down the page to Photos, and there will be one listed for a John Bauer: http://familytreemaker.genealogy.com/users/j/o/h/Sharon-M-Johnson-CA or, try this... hopefully it will take you to the picture. http://familytreemaker.genealogy.com/users/j/o/h/Sharon-M-Johnson-CA/PHOTO/0 002photo.html I can get it to open, but I use Microsoft Explorer. I know if you have AOL it may not open with this addy. My brother and sister have not been able to open it and they use AOL. So, if anyone out there is using AOL, and you can get it to open, what is the secret? :-) Thanks for letting me know the first address didn't work, I really appreciate it! The URL wrapped around to the second line, so you have to cut-and-paste the address together in order to get there.
