Hi cousins, I woke up this morning to about 20 messages in my inbox from Barbara <Caffecupz), our data-feeding cousin from the BAUER-L! They're all going to follow this message. As you'll note below, she is adding the Bowers spelling to her list of names to research. Cousins on the BOWERS-L, you're in for some kind of wonderful treat! Hang on to your inboxes, everyone! :) Colleen -------- Original Message -------- Subject: Re: Data submitted by Caffecupz of the BAUER-L Date: Sat, 25 Aug 2001 10:02:58 EDT From: Caffecupz@aol.com To: ladyaudris@earthlink.net In a message dated 8/25/01 1:30:30 AM, ladyaudris@earthlink.net writes: >Bowers that is now on my list, LOL.

He arrived in Philadelphia on the ship, "Friendship" at the age of 25 on 3 September 1739. His wife was Margaretha, surname unknown, but it is not known with certainty whether he married her in Germany or after he arrived in the USA. In 1746 he was living on Pequea Creek in Conestoga Township, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. In 1751 he was on the tax list for Strasburg Township in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. On 15 April 1754 his daughter, Charlotte, was baptised at the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Frederick, Maryland. His children were Anna Maria, b. circa 1745-46; John, b. 26 December 1748; George, b. ca. 1750; Jacob (my line), b. ca. 1752 who m. Eve Catherine TSCHUDI/JUDY ca. 1774-5; Charlotte; and Michael, m. Maria Catharine. Recently, I found a marriage listing in the International Genealogical Index (IGI), Version 4.02 showing a Joannes NICOLAUS marrying a Maria Margaretha BAUER on 6 June 1739 in the Roemisch-Katholische church in Alzey, Rheinhessen, Hessen, Germany. The IGI referenced film #1475547 in the Family History Library in Salt Lake City. I reviewed this film, handwritten in German, with no knowledge of the German language, and was unable to locate the reference cited above. It is possible that these two men, named John NICOLAUS, aka NICOL, the one arriving on the ship in Philadelphia and the one in Alzey, Germany who married Maria Margaretha BAUER, are one and the same. He could have married Maria Margaretha on 6 June 1739 and then made sea connections which took them to Philadelphia on the vessel called "Friendship", arriving on 3 September 1739. The latter conclusion is only speculative. Does anyone have any knowledge of either of these two families? Thank you very much. Hi Donna and all, This influx of absolutely wonderful information is coming from Barbara <Caffecupz@aol.com> of the BAUER-L, a cousin who is sending all this in on her own. She knows the list of variant spellings we research (from the Homestead's list), and knows that there are 4 teams comprising the 'B' Consortium. As with any volunteer/donated material though, only she can determine the spellings she chooses to work with. I will, however, forward your message to her and let her know that you hope to see some Bowers data, too. If, however, she still chooses to extract only the three spellings as before, someone might want to begin working on the Bowers spelling and perhaps several others?.... I wish you all a SUPER Saturday! :) Colleen Donna Hinson wrote: > > Colleen, > I have noticed that the data being posted from Ancestry.com includes > Bauer, sometimes Baur, and Bower. Colleen, I have noticed that the data being posted from Ancestry.com includes Bauer, sometimes Baur, and Bower. I don't think the Bower searches are picking up Bowers with the "s". I think on some databases, inputting Bowers will pick up Bower as well, unless you ask for an exact match, but inputting Bower normally will not get Bowers. Not sure how it works on Ancestry though. We appreciate all this work but thought I'd let you know one group is being missed. Donna
