Wanda, I'm so sorry! I feel your disappointment, anger and frustration. Web pages are strange creatures to those of us (me!) who don't know how they work. But no one should have to lose it all! I was one of your visitors, and found a few things for another Bower researcher. Take heart. You may have the strength to put it up again! Relax, enjoy your family and friends, and see what January brings. Hi Wanda, I really feel sorry for your loss. As it turns out, my husband is a web designer, and I am copying him on this email, hopefully, he will be able to tell you where your files may be. Be patient with him, he has a really full plate this week. Hi Cousins I am sorry to report that my Indiana Bower Continuum page is no longer up and running. I thought I had backed up all my files but when the site went down and I tried to reload, there was nothing on my disc. I don't know how to find things in caches or where any of it could be hiding, So until sometime after New Years, unless I find it somehow, it is gone. At least I have most of it on hard copy and can retype all of it but not right. I just can't face it right now. Just wish I knew why it went down and took everything with it. Maybe I won't do it at all. In the year and a half it was up, I only had about 54 visitors, not many for over 400 hrs work. Oh,well, at least I have a good business and a good family and a vacation(one week after Christmas)(first in 21 years) and you all. What more could anyone want?"""""MY WEB PAGES"""" Sorry, didn't mean to yell. Have a good life, give much love, receive more love and live for today. Wanda wmrobert@nalu.net

Hey Vicki I do janemac@juno.com mine are in IA tho and I can not seem to get them back past the CVW. Connect into my PORTER line from WV. Looking for a Hannah or Elizabeth Day who married a John PORTER. Colleen and Family; Well you will not believe what arrived in to my hands over the weekend? Dose any of out Canadian Cousins or even U.S. Cousins have Day in their family tree? Well a young man from our Share facility here in Kelowna found a book put together by hand on the History of the Day family from England and Ireland. Most of the family mebers that or spocken of in this book are Canadian, but he says some went to the States in 18???. I am going to copy some of the names and dates so that if any wish to ask for details I can give you what I was able to piece together, but it is not my book and thought if I could find its rightfull owner, such as decendants of this Day tree, I would try. Blessings Vicky

Welcome to new cousins 2. WHOPBOF site fight 3. The one-dollar bill TO OUR NEWEST COUSINS ~~ On behalf of the entire family, I'd like to extend a most hearty welcome to those cousins who came into the family fold this past week. We are very glad to have you with us and hope you'll stay and remain a part of our online family. As soon as you're comfortable with us and the list, please send in your Bower[s]/Bauer or Baur lines so we can all see how we're related to you. We do not have a fancy format for sending in records or queries to the list. Post as many as you wish! If the data has anything to do with Bower[s]/Bauer or Baur ancestors or any of the 81+ variant spellings we research that might help someone, please feel free to post it. Every scrap of information is appreciated. If you haven't visited the homesite of this list yet, you are encouraged to do so. Our home is Bower Community, located at <http://bowercommunity.com>. There, we currently have two sites: The Bower Family Homestead [a.k.a., the Homestead] is our primary homesite and the gathering place for much of our information. It waits to join us all in welcoming you into the family at <http://bowercommunity.com/homestead>. Smaller is our sister site, the Bower Cottage, which houses most of our projects including an online GEDCOM fed by cousins from our research groups. Find the Cottage is at <http://bowercommunity.com/cottage>. WHOPBOF SITE FIGHTS I received word from the WHOPBOF promoters that they are shutting down the site fights for lack of participation. It seems the "fad" of site fights has come to an end. According to WHOPBOF, they ".... would like to have a GRAND FINAL contest for all the YEARLY 1st place winners from all the years to challenge each other and run against each other for the GRAND FINAL CONTEST award. This would be held immediately following the year end [1st week of December]. All this would take us into like the 2nd week of December which still allows everyone to enjoy holiday without interference from the contest." We got into this together and so now, I bring it back to you. Do we want to have a go at the Grand Finals? If so, we do it; if not, I'll let the promoters know not to include us. At this point our direct competitors will be: Dec98: SCTISHLDY's Homepage <http://members.aol.com/SCTISHLDY> Dec99: Our Beautiful Garden <http://members.tripod.com/~MyLove2U/GlennasBuddies.html> Dec00: Bower Family Homestead (US!) :) There's one more yearly final competition coming up for 2001. We'll also compete against the winner of that contest. If you have a point that you feel the whole family should discuss, please use the CHAT: format to do so. Otherwise, please let me know your opinions privately at <ladyaudris@earthlink.net>. I'll let everyone know the results next Sunday. THE ONE-DOLLAR BILL I'm not one to copy someone else's work, but this time I must make an exception ~ I simply can't write it any better. The piece was submitted to me by Brenda Moore <kingsley@aol.com>, but appears to have been written by Ed Burns (I don't have his email addy). I present this piece to you in its entirety simply because of what it stands for and what we've just been through as a nation ... as a world. "Take out a one-dollar bill and look at it. The one-dollar bill you're looking at first came off the presses in 1957 in its present design. This so-called paper money is in fact a cotton and linen blend, with red and blue minute silk fibers running through it. "It is actually material. We've all washed it without it falling apart. A special blend of ink is used, the contents we will never know. It is overprinted with symbols and then it is starched to make it water resistant and pressed to give it that nice crisp look. "If you look on the front of the bill, you will see the United States Treasury Seal. On the top you will see the scales for the balance - A balanced budget. In the center you have a carpenter's T-square, a tool used for an even cut. Underneath is the Key to the United States Treasury. "That's all pretty easy to figure out, but what is on the back of that dollar bill is something we should all know. If you turn the bill over, you will see two circles. Both circles, together, comprise the Great Seal of the United States. The First Continental Congress requested that Benjamin Franklin and a group of men come up with a Seal. It took them four years to accomplish this task and another two years to get it approved. "If you look at the left hand circle, you will see a Pyramid. Notice the face is lighted and the western side is dark. This country was just beginning. We had not begun to explore the West or decided what we could do for Western Civilization. The Pyramid is uncapped, again signifying that we were not even close to being finished. Inside the capstone you have the "All Seeing Eye", an ancient symbol for divinity. It was Franklin's belief that one man couldn't do it alone, but a group of men, with the help of God, could do anything. "IN GOD WE TRUST" is on this currency. The Latin above the pyramid, ANNUIT COEPTIS, means, "God has favored our undertaking." "The Latin below the pyramid, NOVUS ORDO SECLORUM, means, "a new order has begun." At the base of the pyramid is the Roman numeral for 1776. If you look at the right-hand circle, and check it carefully; you will learn that it is on every National Cemetery in the United States. It is also on the Parade of Flags Walkway at the Bushnell, Florida National Cemetery and is the centerpiece of most heroes' monuments. Slightly modified, it is the seal of the President of the United States and it is always visible whenever he speaks; yet no one knows what the symbols mean. "The Bald Eagle was selected as a symbol for victory for two reasons: "First, he is not afraid of a storm; he is strong and he is smart enough to soar above it. Secondly, he wears no material crown. We had just broken from the King of England. Also, notice the shield is unsupported. This country can now stand on its own. At the top of that shield you have a white bar signifying congress, a unifying factor. We were coming together as one nation. In the Eagle's beak you will read, E PLURIBUS UNUM, meaning "one nation from many people." "Above the Eagle you have thirteen stars representing the thirteen original colonies, and any clouds of misunderstanding rolling away. Again, we were coming together as one. Notice what the Eagle holds in his talons. He holds an olive branch and arrows. This country wants peace, but we will never be afraid to fight to preserve peace. The Eagle always wants to face the olive branch, but in time of war, his gaze turns toward the arrows. "They say that the number 13 is an unlucky number. This is almost a worldwide belief. You will usually never see a room numbered 13, or any hotels or motels with a 13th floor. But, think about this: *13 original colonies, *13 signers of the Declaration of Independence, *13 stripes on our flag, *13 steps on the Pyramid, *13 letters in the Latin above the Pyramid, *13 letters in "E PLURIBUS UNUM", *13 stars above the Eagle, *13 plumes of feathers on each span of the Eagle's wing, *13 bars on that shield, *13 leaves on the olive branch, *13 fruits, *And if you look closely: 13 arrows. *And for minorities: the 13th Amendment. "Why don't we know this?" Your children don't know this and their history teachers don't know this. Many veterans have given up too much to ever let the meaning fade. Many veterans remember coming home to an America that didn't care. Too many veterans never came home at all. "Tell everyone what is on the back of the one-dollar bill and what it stands for, because nobody else will!" Family ... it's truly what we're all about. I wish you a week filled with health, productivity, fun, and above all, filled with love and inner peace. ) ( ) _.-~~-. (@\'--'/. Colleen ('``.__.'`) `..____.'

Hi everyone, As before, this is a mass mailing to all the discussion groups I maintain and/or do a Sunday Morning Coffee for... This is an old subject with continually new twists. Most of you already know how I feel about Family Discovery ... and I'm here with the latest update... I have just received a genealogy bulletin from GenTruth, aka <FamilyDiscovery.com> saying: "25% of your Genealogy Membership Will Go Directly To The National Disaster Relief Fund of the American Red Cross." If I'm receiving it, you will too ~ if you haven't already. EVERYONE BEWARE!!! I remind you all that GenTruth is a cover site for <FamilyDiscovery.com>. Now they are advertising a "one time access fee fund raising offer" of $49.99 with (supposedly) 25% of the fee being donated. They advertise that this is "Expiring Very Soon!" and that you should "Subscribe today" to "save over 50% off the regular $119.99 price." If so many of us weren't already aware of what they do, their patriotic flag and ribbon theme just might work. They haven't changed; they're still the same old story, I'm afraid. Please everyone, keep your checkbooks, wallets and credit cards put away. ***ARE YOU A NEWBIE?*** Here's the lowdown on these scam artists: To our newbies ~ Family Discovery is just what I said in the last sentence... rip-offs. This is becoming an old subject among those of us who have been doing online genealogy for a while, but you need to be made aware... Family Discovery links their pages to free Rootsweb <http://www.rootsweb.com> sites and archive pages, GenWeb sites, and privately owned sites ... sites on which all the information is already FREE! They are doing this without permission and are currently under investigation. Please, heed the warning. A new ad from them has begun to circulate that will tug at your heartstrings following the 11 September attack. This site is NOT to be trusted! While I'm at it, I'd better warn you of their newest, sister site... GenSeeker, in case another message is floating around that I'm not aware of yet. Though I haven't heard any more about it from anyone (yet), it's still a site owned by the same person(s) and building itself under the same premise as Family Discovery. I've been to their newest site and seen what they're up to. Instead of the "special rate" you're charged $20 more. However, when clicking on their "freesearch link," the unwary customer is taken to the familydiscovery.com site. GenSeeker describes itself as "the most comprehensive easy to use collection of online records ever compiled." Of course it is, if they link to every free website they can find! Save your money and do the search yourself! You DO NOT need to pay for a service that is already free if you know where to look. If you need assistance, send a message to the list and state in the top line of your message that you're a newbie needing help; you'll probably get more than you can handle! :) Gene Olson has refocused his Anti-Family Discovery Web Site and broadened its scope. It now includes any company that uses illegal or unethical business practices. You newbies to online genealogy would be wise to go to his site and read up on this company so you won't be ripped off. Click on the following link and you'll be taken directly to his site: <http://www.compuright.net/badbusiness/>. Gene's new email address is <gene_olson@compuright.net>. It appears another site has taken over where Gene Olson left off. This page <http://www.imagin.net/~tracers/familydiscovery.htm> has messages from quite a few people who have stepped forward to tell you of their dealings with Family Discovery. It would be in your best interests to check it out, if only for a quick scan. With us all trying to recover from a most traumatic experience, I find it appalling that Family Discovery would stoop so low at a time like this to continue their scam. Please everyone, check out the two sources I've given you here and protect yourselves. I hope this finds you all having a peaceful Sunday. Colleen

There, we currently have two sites: The Bower Family Homestead [a.k.a., the Homestead] is our primary homesite and the gathering place for much of our information. It waits to join us all in welcoming you into the family at <http://bowercommunity.com/homestead>. Smaller is our sister site, the Bower Cottage, which houses most of our projects including an online GEDCOM fed by quite a few cousins from our research groups. Find the Cottage is at <http://bowercommunity.com/cottage>. THE DAY THE WORLD CRIED September 11, 2001 ... the day the world cried and forever, changed. There is small chance that anyone alive, except those very young children, will ever forget what happened that day. Though the attack occurred on U.S. soil, it wasn't just the U.S. who suffers. Citizens from 62 nations were also killed that day; our global family is filled with heartache. I have spent the better part of this past week trying to write something especially meaningful for you and me, but nothing comes to mind. The acts of 19 men impacted horrifically on the minds of the world and though they may have thought they were dying for a supreme cause, brought nothing more than shame on themselves and turned the global community against them. As down as I have been these past two weeks, I _REFUSE_ to allow them to destroy me! Though I still have a bandaid on my soul, I am beginning to try and find anything good that came out of all this. And, believe it or not, there HAS been good. My list is short right now, but when I read it, I feel somewhat strengthened; and so, I'd like to share this list with (especially) those of you who are still in the depths of depression: * Thousands of people, more than were killed, actually survived those awful attacks! * The completion of the terrorists entire plan was foiled in Pennsylvania and when the FAA ordered all the airborne flights to land immediately at the nearest airport. * The planes weren't full. * Thanks be to our Creator that the terrorists didn't use nuclear or biological weapons. The results would have been much more cataclysmic. * I'm alive to feel all this pain and I know it won't last forever. * The firefighters continue to work around the clock ~ they're not giving up. * The world has come together as one voice ~ regardless of nationality, race or religion. * The United States has rallied under its symbols ~ her flag and eagle. The terrorists may have hit the World Trade Center and the Pentagon, but they definitely missed the soul of America. * The U.S. flag STILL proudly waves! They made us cry, but they only made our spirit stronger. And now, the eagle has bared her claws and sharpened her beak! * The world is coming together to stand shoulder to shoulder in brotherhood with a common goal. * I can still look out my window and see the sky, trees, grass and flowers. * We still have our online family and each other. During one of my 'down' times my best friend, Brenda Moore, reminded me that to stop doing genealogy would be to give in to the terrorists by letting them run my life. She's right, you know. Thanks, Bren. NOTES * With the wise reminder from Brenda, I now close down the CHAT: forum and ask that we all return to the topic of the day ... genealogy. * We as family historians have witnessed, to date, the greatest event of our lives and saw history in the making. It's important that we get it recorded for our descendants 3-4 generations from now. And now, I leave you with this gentle reminder... Family ... it's truly what we're all about. I wish you a week filled with health, productivity, fun, and above all, filled with love and peace. ) ( ) _.-~~-. (@\'--'/. Colleen ('``.__.'`) `..____.' P.S. I'd like to share a site with you that I received this morning. <http://www.debsfunpages.com/wtc7.htm>

The url for this web site is: http://azstrong.tripod.com/jd_letha I am still trying to find the parents of my Andrew, who first appeared in the records of Grainger Co. in 1815. My theory is that he was a son of the Andrew Bowers who appears in the records of Grayson Co., VA between 1798 and 1812. An Andrew Jr. also appears in those records. Proven brothers of Andrew of Grainger Co. include John of Grainger Co. and David of Shelby Co., IN. Other Bowers who appear in Grainger Co. tax and census records between 1826 and 1830 include a second Andrew, who may have been Andrew Sr. of Grayson Co., and also William, Henry and Jacob, who may have been additional brothers of Andrew of Grainger Co. It is also known that Andrew of Grayson Co. had a son, George, who remained in Grayson Co. after the rest of the family left. ==== BOWERS Mailing List ==== Need to reach Colleen, the discussion coordinator? I was hoping that someone out there might have the information I cannot find. I have been searching for the parents and siblings of David Bowers (1730-1796) of Beech Island, SC (Edgefield, SC). I am running out of places to look. If you can help please email me at garlands@txcr.net Thanks so much, it is comforting to know that so many people care about each other. I got this from my sister today, I wanted to pass it along to the rest of my family. --------- From: Lornamill@aol.com To: bbower@ligtel.com Subject: Fwd: Fw: No time] Date: Sun, Sep 16, 2001, 8:06 AM In a message dated 9/1/01 10:11:52 AM Central Daylight Time, bkilker@cox-internet.com writes: I don't think I know 10 people who would admit they love Jesus. Do You Love Him? This is a simple test: IFYOU LOVE JESUS, SEND THIS TO AT LEAST 10 PEOPLE I knelt to pray but not for long, I had too much to do. I had to hurry and get to work For bills would soon be due. So I knelt and said a hurried prayer, And jumped up off my knees. My Christian duty was now done My soul could rest at ease. All day long I had no time To spread a word of cheer. No time to speak of Christ to friends, They'd laugh at me I'd fear. No time, no time, too much to do, That was my constant cry, No time to give to souls in need But at last the time, the time to die. I went before the Lord, I came, I stood with downcast eyes. For in his hands God held a book; It was the book of life. God looked into his book and said "Your name I cannot find. I once was going to write it down... But never found the time" Now do you have the time to pass it on?
Everybody, I felt I needed to pass this on.... Tomorrow the stock market opens. There's been talk about how the whole world is waiting to see if the U.S. stock market takes a big dive or is o.k. If we could get the word out for everyone to stay calm and ride out the storm, maybe stocks would not plunge. The airlines have already taken a big hit and dumping their stock is not what they need now. Institutional selling might not help either, but maybe if we can spread the word via the internet to as many as possible including the institutions, we can keep our stock market from taking a big dive and show our faith in our country and our economy. Remaining calm in the wake of all that has happened is what we need to do now.
