    1. [BOWER] Web Page With Bowers Data
    2. Donna Hinson
    3. I am no expert at web pages, so I created a plain vanilla one that contains my research notes for the Bowers of Davidson Co. TN. I have found that many of Davidson Co. and other surrounding county Bowers migrated from NC just prior to or around 1800. There are NC land grant records for Bowers in Middle TN for NC Rev. service dating back to 1787 when TN was originally part of NC. Some Bowers hailed from NJ and apparently lived in NC before going to TN. My research so far on my line has taken me to the following states: NJ, VA, NC, TN, KY, MS, and IL, and maybe some of these Bowers had descendants who went to other states that I don't know of yet! I hope someone out there finds this information helpful. http://www.geocities.com/dhinson2000/GenealogyPages.html

It'll probably be interesting, though, to all Bowers with Ontario connections. It was interesting to me, because until today, I had been researching Margaret as a BRower! 3. Can anyone help me solve this puzzle? I have the information below on Bedford Co., TN Bowers, some of which went to AL, AR, TX. The children's names are very similar to some of those of Wilson Co. and Davidson Co., TN. Is anyone related to them and can help solve the mystery of who they are and whether they were originally from Wilson or Davidson Co.? The information on the widow's name is also very confusing. Is it Mary or Nancy? John Bowers, Sr. of Bedford Co., TN The following information is according to the book, Bedford County TN Wills & Vital Records from Newspapers, 1996, page 121-122. (Will dated June 15, 1836, on page 211 of records for John Bowers, Sr.) Husband: John Bowers, Sr. Wife: Mary Married: 1797? Children: William, Benjamin, Jesse, David, Green, Henry, Solomon, Lemuel, Mary R. Hedrick, Giles, and John Son-in-law, Wesley W. Hedrick to reside or live on plantation and take care of wife. Had 4 negroes. Another source (Book: TN Tidbits?) showed following: Bowers, John “Died in the summer of 1836 as shown in the suit of Wm McGrew vs Benjamin Bowers of Bedford County & William Bowers of AL. John Bowers had made a will leaving negroes to all his children, being 9 or 10 in number. Benjamin & William Bowers were executors. Wm. McGrew had purchased the interest of Green Bowers in said negroes and the executors refused to pay said legacy to him. He filed suit 3 December 2838. In the answer it was stated that John Bowers had 11 children, to wit, William, Benjamin, Jesse, John, Solomon, David, Green Henry, Lemuel, Giles Bowers & Mary R. Hedrick. Mary Bowers, widow of John, is entitled to dower. The will was shown. His son-in-law was Wesley W. Hedricks. The will was dated 15 June 1836. (Bed TN, Ch Ct. Min. 1/209). Another suit shows that William Bowers was in Bount County, AL, and Henry Bowers was in Arkansas County, AR. (Ibid 236) Jesse Bowers also lives in Blount County, AL. The widow, Mary Bowers, has now (by April 1840) died. (Ibid 286) Another suit filed 21 January 1841 by Lemuel Bowers, a citizen of AL vs. Benjamin F. Bowers of Bedford County, TN and William Bowers of TX. Lemuel Bowers wants a settlement of his fathers estate. (Ibid 377) The widow was shown as Nancy Bowers. (Ibid 2/75).”

    3. Hi everyone, I just received a message from our domain's server. I'm going to copy and paste part of it over to this message ... URGENT MESSAGE!!!!!!!!!! EMERGENCY UPGRADE COMMENCING!!!!!! We are currently undergoing EMERGENCY SOFTWARE and HARDWARE upgrades to our entire network. Significant improvements to our servers, connections, and software will be the result of these upgrades. During the upgrade you may experience sluggish site or very short periods of downtime as we reboot servers, move files, upgrade software, etc. DURING THE UPGRADE, DO NOT MAKE CHANGES TO YOUR WEBSITE. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Other than several admin paragraphs, this is the 'meat' of the message. So, if you're unable to access the Homestead or the Cottage for a while, this is the reason. As directed by our server, I won't be making any uploads or corrections until they've completed their maintenance. Sheesh! First Rootsweb, and now our home. What next? :) I hope you're all having a MARVELOUS Monday! ...Just think, if you don't count today, and you don't count the day itself, then it's only three days until Friday... and another weekend! <g> Colleen

No Coffee today If you've been with the family for at least three weeks, you'll probably want to skip the following paragraph… TO OUR NEWEST COUSINS ~~ On behalf of the entire family, I'd like to extend a most hearty welcome to those cousins who came into the family fold this past week. We are very glad to have you with us and hope you'll stay and remain a part of our online family. As soon as you're comfortable with us and the list, please send in your Bower[s]/Bauer or Baur lines so we can all see how we're related to you. We do not have a fancy format for sending in records or queries to the list. Post as many as you wish! If the data has anything to do with Bower[s]/Bauer or Baur ancestors or any of the 81+ variant spellings we research that might help someone, please feel free to post it. Every scrap of information is appreciated. If you haven't visited the homesite of this list yet, you are encouraged to do so. Our home is Bower Community, located at <http://bowercommunity.com>. There, we currently have two sites: The Bower Family Homestead [a.k.a., the Homestead] is our primary homesite and the gathering place for much of our information. It waits to join us all in welcoming you into the family at <http://bowercommunity.com/homestead>. Smaller is our sister site, the Bower Cottage, houses most of our projects including an online GEDCOM fed by quite a few cousins from our lists. The Cottage is still small as far as material goes, however give us time and we'll have it filled really soon. The Cottage is at <http://bowercommunity.com/cottage>. NO COFFEE TODAY Since we don't know how long it will take Rootsweb to come back online during their period of extended maintenance, there will be no Coffee today. However, we will have one next week! :) Family... it's what we're all about. I hope your upcoming week is filled with health, fun, productivity, and above all, filled with love. ) ( ) _.-~~-. 3. Hi everyone, Starting at 8 a.m. U.S. PST Friday, February 23, RootsWeb will be down for a planned temporary downtime for maintenance of its servers and hosting process. This means that all the lists may be down as well. So, don't get concerned if you get very few or no messages at all. Rootsweb doesn't give a period of time this will last, but does say it will limit the downtime as much as possible. You might do well to expect this period to run into Friday evening for those of you on the U.S. east coast, and possibly into Saturday if you're outside the U.S. I hope you all have a FANTASTIC Friday! :) Colleen

    3. Donna, I believe this is Giles Bowers Sr b. c1715 VA d. 1800 Franklin Co NC and Jesse was his son, and Young McLemore (migrated to west TN) who was son-in-law of Giles is also in these court records. Bute Co NC was formed in 1764 from Granville Co and in 1779 was abolished by division into Warren and Franklin Counties. Giles Bowers entered land in Granville Co NC c1740-1750 on Lynches Creek of Tar River. Could this be the Jesse Bowers in early records of Wilson Co TN? 2. Elaine McCauley
    3. John Adam & Catherine Gemaelig are my grandparents back to the early 1700's. I suspect that they are from Koblenz, Germany. Definitely from Germany though. What information I do have is from a cousin living in Dillsburg, PA [Joan Crise]. What I do know of them from Joan is that they came from Germany with those children born in Germany and settled in the Carolinas. Their son Philip was born in 1767 in S. Carolina but died in Shelburne Cty., Nova Scotia. When the American Revolution broke up John his wife Catherine their 2 sons [Charles & Philip] move to Nova Scotia. They also had 5 daughters Catherine Elizabeth [m a John Henry], Angelica & Maria. I suspect either the daughters died young or stayed in S. Carolina if they married. My cousin told me the John Adam, wife & 2 sons were tories thus the move to Canada. Anyhow here's the layout of the family: John Adam Bower b. Germany, m. Germany, d. Shelburne Cty., Nova Scotia, Canada Catherine Gemaelig Bower b. Germany, d. Shelburne Cty., Nova Scotia, Canada children [not in birth order] Margaret Catherine Elizabeth m. John Henry Angelica Maria Charles b. 1755, Germany, m. Margaret Hamilton, 15 Sept. 1789, Nova Scotia, Canada, d. Nova Scotia, Canada Philip Bower b. 1767, S. Carolina, m. Suzanna Graham, 13 Oct. 1803, Nova Scotia, Canada, d. Nova Scotia, Canada Bower cousins inter married A LOT from the Nova Scotia branch. Any help would be great.
