Hi. I am also searching in Ohio for William & Elenor Bowers (born circa 1800). Their son Clayton Webb Bowers b.Ohio 1826 married in Clermont County Ohio in 1856 to Mary E. (Rice) Bowers. Lookup request of 1850 census Clermont County Bower/Bowers did not list Clayton Bowers as a family member. Mary Rice Bowers, single, age 16 listed as member of William Rice family. Clermont County webmistress emailed that circuit rider minister that performed the 1856 marriage had the White Oak Circuit and that line ran between Clermont and Brown Counties in Ohio. As of now, I am centering my search on Clermont & Brown counties. GGGGrandfather -William Bowers b. circa 1800 Ohio d. unknown GGGrandfather - Clayton Webb Bowers b. Nov, 1826 Ohio d.1916 Indiana GGrandfather - Clifford Tillman Bowers b. March, 1857 Indiana d.1927 Indiana Grandfather - William Clayton Bowers b. Sept, 1884 Indiana d.1959 NJ (I have death certs for last 3 listings that show birthplaces and names of their parents) Fran in Virginia

Connie, Yes, I am researching the family of Joel Bower (Sr) in Ohio. He and his first wife, Amy Anthony, was married in Hamilton County, Ohio in 1826. We believe they had 8 children, all born in Hamilton County, Ohio also, before moving the family to Ripley County, Indiana. They moved sometime after Nov 1849 and before Dec. 1851 based on where and when the last child was born and the first wife passing. Any information about this family would be APPRECIATED!!! So much so I couldn't tell you how much we would appreciated it! I hate brick walls. I am so sorry.... try this addy... this should take you to the front page. Once there, scroll down the page to Photos, and there will be one listed for a John Bauer: http://familytreemaker.genealogy.com/users/j/o/h/Sharon-M-Johnson-CA or, try this... hopefully it will take you to the picture. http://familytreemaker.genealogy.com/users/j/o/h/Sharon-M-Johnson-CA/PHOTO/0 002photo.html I can get it to open, but I use Microsoft Explorer. I know if you have AOL it may not open with this addy. My brother and sister have not been able to open it and they use AOL. So, if anyone out there is using AOL, and you can get it to open, what is the secret? :-) Thanks for letting me know the first address didn't work, I really appreciate it! I am researching Bowers of OH. I have not actively for a while, but slowly look for info. I am currently searching for info on Frederick and Matilda Bowers. Jennie
I'm new to the list so please be patient with me. I have three Bauer-Bower-Bowers ladies who married Holderreads. Frederica Bauer married Anthony Holderread in Penn. They ended up in Montgomery Co., Hillsboro, IL. Anthony is listed on the 1880 census w/o Frederica. I am trying to get the name of her parents. I have a Christina Bower married to John Frederick Holderread married in Columbiana Co., OH on Jan. 1, 1833. I'd like to know who her parents are. I have a Rosenna Bowers married to Frederick Holderread. Probably married in Germany where they both were from. My question: Are these Bowers-Bower-Bauer ladies related. I'm also trying to figure out how the Holderread men are related. Rosenna Bowers Holderread is my gggrandmother. She lived in Ohio and settled in Elkhart Co., IN. I hope I have made myself clear. Thanks, Connie __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Get email at your own domain with Yahoo! Mail. http://personal.mail.yahoo.com/?.refer=text
Since I am advertising and no one has a problem with Family Tree but me, I'd like to correct the price of the sub. It is $79.99. Everyone keep up the good work of letting us know when you have a problem with any of the genealogy profit makers. I am not against anyone making a profit, I just don't like it at my expense. I, too, am upset at the way the conversation has been going here at the Bower Family. Let's chalk it up to a looooonnnnnngggggg Winter and now that spring is finally here we can break the doldrums of being in too close a proximity to one another. I love all the cousin news that comes down the internet pike and hope my coffee and chocolate is alway hot and ready in the winter and the iced tea and lemonade in the summer, to welcome any and all that stop by. Be Happy! Lots of Love and Laughter and Sunshine. I think part of the problem is that many of us are somewhat naive and trusting. We don't read the find print as we think everyone's values and methods are the same as ours. We have been sharing info, some for MANY years, on a genealogist to genealogist level. We want to share freely and don't stop to think that it has become a business as have most hobbies and sports these days. What most of the genealogy businesses are doing is just business. They do you a favor, you give them something and they sell it. Not an unusual process. Granted some of them are more sneaky about it than others but that's life. I'm not saying not to trust anybody but a person has to be aware here on the internet just like anywhere else. Dealing on an individual basis is usually pretty safe in this hobby but if you are dealing with a profit making entity you know they are selling something and they have to get the product "supplies" somehow. As in most of life -- don't assume anything. > I sure don't understand all the paranoia that seems to be suddenly > surfacing. Yep, sure am. My family went through Canton, Stark Co, Ohio. My Bowers/Bauers/Baur/Baner (I have found them with all of these spellings) came over from Darmstadt Germany @1830. BUT... I have pictures of this John Bauer, and he doesn't look like he has an ounce of German in him... most think he looks Spanish. I have a picture of him posted at http://familytreemaker.genealogy.com/users/j/o/h/Sharon-M-Johnson-CA/index.h tml?Welcome=986227619 I would love to have other opinions as to whether or not he looks German... Anyhow, by 1850, they show up living in Freeport, Stephensville County, Illinois per the 1850 Illinois census (Roll 129, Page 251, line 151) for Freeport, Stephenson County Illinois: John Bauer, 45, M, Boot and Shoe Dealer, born in Germany Margaret, ", 39 F, born in Germany ( NOTE: Margaret's maiden name was Eber... believed to be from Eberstadt Germany just outside of Darmstadt. Living next to Margaret is her brother, Jacob Eber, with his family) John ", 16, M, Clerk, born in Ohio, attended School Helena, 14, F, born in Ohio, attended school Caroline, 13, F, born in Ohio, attended school Florindina, 7, F, born in Ohio, attended school Augustus, 6, M, born in Ohio, attended school Philip, 3, M, born in Ohio My line is John Bauers, Jr. Although not documented yet, it is believed this family moved from Stephensville County, Illinois, to Nauvoo, Hancock County Illinois sometime after the 1850 census. Eventually, my line ended up in and around the St. Louis, Missouri area, as John married Prudence Hussmann there in 1857. Family stories say more information on the Bauer/Hussmann family can be found in Hermann, Missouri. The family apparently had been wine producers in Ohio and Germany... I'm have no idea how John, Sr. ended up being a Boot and Shoe Dealer in Illinois. I would love to speak with anyone who is related to any one of these Bauers. Thanks for "listening" ;-) Sharon Yuba City, CA -----Original Message----- Subject: [BOWER] Bowers of Ohio Is anyone out there researching the Bowers of Ohio? Varied spellings. Connie
Still looking for someone missing a BOWER son named John, born in Germany 4-25-1833. Other than that he married a Catherine, b. 3-23-1840 I have no info on him. To my guessing he was in Canada before 1858 as I was told all the children were born in Cananda. In letters I have there is no mention of any siblings or parents for him (or her). One of those "dropped from Mars" families. His death certificate lists only that he was born in Germany, no parents. I have gotten Family Treemaker mailings for years. There is nothing unusual or smelly about them. Simply advertising their sale items and letting you know what is newly available. I sure don't understand all the paranoia that seems to be suddenly surfacing. Near as I can tell Family Treemaker has not changed their business methods.
