    1. [BOWER] CHAT: animation of migration maps?
    2. jessie
    3. Hello! just had an idea that i thought i would run by the family and see if i'm reinventing the wheel. i am sending it only to this list because i feel so comfortable here knowing that no one will jump on me about it. ok ... so what if you could 1) get simple outline maps for the areas where your ancestors lived, at any scale that is appropriate or interesting to you, from continent-sized to state, county or within a town even. 2) mark the place where your ancestors resided at each time where you have data, and make each successive map contain the previous information with lines connecting the points. 3) scan the maps and then place them into a genealogy program that can make slide shows of associated "photos" like mine can. i use Family Ties Deluxe. 4) by running the slide show rather quickly you *should* get a cartoon animation effect of the way your family or families spread over an area. whaddya think? has someone already done this? what about doing it for different lineages in different colors, showing how they converged perhaps in one area leading to a marriage that resulted in the combined lineage that leads to yourself or someone else? i'm thinking of it in terms of a teaching tool to help my young daughter learn about her family history in ways that might make it more interesting for her. 1. [BOWER] great genealogy source
    2. A. G. Carrick
    3. There is an online genealogy database you ought to check out. You can search as with most databases, but the best part is if you can create a GEDCOM file from your database. The site will help you upload it and then it matches EVERYBODY in your database with every other name in their database. Now & then it turns up some connection that is obviously wrong, but for the most part it is pretty accurate. A day or so later you can check back & it will give you a list of all the matches for each name. I hope all you folks on this list will give it a shot. I hope that some of your ancestors will match with some of mine! http://www.gencircles.com/ HTH. Gil

They were in Norwalk, Huron Co OH, on the 1840 Census, but I have not located them after that. Their daughter, Elmira LOVE married Jared SMITH, supposedly in Monroe Co MI, in1848, altho there is no record there. Elmira was my GGranny. Clarissa's father was Silas BOWERS, mother Marvel ? There is an writeup about the early pioneers in the "Firelands Pioneer", Nov1858, which states that Silas BOWERS came into Fairfield Twp in 1816. It describes how, in early 1818, he froze to death while hunting deer. In addition to Clarissa, he and Marvel also had a son Silas, who was also a minor when Silas died. Ring any bells? 1. [BOWER] Bowers family in Ms
    2. Hi all, Received this info today from a lady in Mississippi. >From a copy of the 1900 Pearlington, Ms census. Found a listing for Mary Bowers--lists her birthdate as Oct. 1863 She was a 36 year old widow, mother of four children, all living. (Albin died in 1893) It says that Mary was born in Ms, and her father was also born in Ms. Says her mother was born in Tennessee. We previously thought Mary was born in Tn. I ordered the 1880 census film for Hancock, Co. Ms--Hopefully we can locate the family there. The lady at the research center was very helpful. The film should be there in about 2 weeks. I'll let you know what I find out. Hopefully I can now find a connection to Mary's parents and/or siblings too. I have found a David Glover age 70 married to Sally, Age 57. with a son Robert, age 28. in Hancock Co. Ms.in 1850. On the same page,is a Washington Glover, age 28 with Susan age 26--I assume husb. & wife. Since Mary's father was supposed to be born in Ms and this is the only ones we found in Hancock Co., maybe this is some of Mary's family. In 1900 Mary was working as a cook. It says the children were: James W.--age 15,--born Dec. 1884--His father born in Illinois (I assume-Albin who we thought might have been born in Illinois.) and his mother (Mary--born in Ms.) However we have a marriage date of Apr. 22, 1887--3 years later. Was Mary married previously and had James by a previous marriage- were they married 3 years after he was born, or do we have an incorrect marriage date???? James was working as a laborer in 1900, so apparently helped to support the family. It says Nancy B. (Nancy Barbara) was born Apr. 1888 (age 12) We had her birthdate as April 6, 1887, 16 days before her parents marriage. The 1888 date makes more sense and would be age 12 in 1888. Albert W. was born Feb. 1889 and would have been age 11. The last name was at the bottom of the page and she could not quite make it out. She said it looked like Alain. No mention of William, so could have been William or since both of the boys listed have the middle initial W., maybe one of them went by William instead of their first name. Info from LDS family search center census, places David Bowers Age 20 in Logan Co. Ohio in 1850. (I believe we had this info already.) He was living with a DeGrasse Brooks. (Could this have been a sister's husband?) I was really excited about getting this info. Gives us some new avenues to search. This lady is a member of the Hancock Co. Historical Society and says she will try to search the cemetery records next time she goes down there. You find so many nice people searching for their family history. This lady is not even searching for Bowers, but saw a message board for Hancock Co. and offered to help. Hope everyone is doing great, Diana

    3. Colleen, Since we are asking questions------My Joel Bower was born in New York( this came from a census report) ca.1806. His second child was named Isaac.(I know this is not probably a possible link)( this is just too much head banging against that brick wall) His first child was Isaiah P. then after Isaac was Joel Jr., Martha Ann, Henrietta Augusta, Mary Catherine, Jerremiah, and Margaret Elizabeth. Joel,Sr's first wife was Amy Anthony born in Ohio. All the above children were born in Ohio.Hamilton Co., Ohio. They then moved(after 1849) to Ripley Co., Indiana. In 1852, after Amy died in 1851, Joel married Mary Wood b. in New York. Their Children were Electa, Mercy A., James, Amity C. Francis E. and possibly George A.(Oscar Barron is more familiar with this part of thefamily)(Lisa Brown is also working on the Joel and Amy side of the family) This is all we are fairly sure of. Anyone got anything to add. Just a reminder, my State/Country Project site is a mess at present but will try to get it back in its fat state again real soon. There is sooooo much info, and more to put in and soooo little time to work on it. 3. Hi "Cousins" I have a questions, and I know this mailing list has talked before about ship records or such. I am fairly new to genealogy research and I am going through some papers that my family had laying around. I found information on another line I am research (Buswell line before they married into the Bower line) that they were brought to the USA around the 1750's. What sources are there to find out the information regarding them coming to the States? Where would I look for passenger lists or such? The notes I have say they were coaxed into the ship and brought to America as indentured servants. Who they been listed on a passenger list if they were intended as an indentured servant? Any help would be appreciated! Lisa

I know that my grandmother, Margaret, spent some time in Iowa...so when I ran a search of her brother's name, and it turned up in Iowa during the right time period, I was interested. The record shows Obediah marrying a Nancy Dutcher in 1879. Is anyone familiar with this couple? Obadiah BROWER Sex: M Marriage(s): Spouse: Nancy L. 3. Following is a partial list of descendants of: Martin Vanburen Bower - I know I put waaaay too much detail in it, but I'm so much hoping to connect with someone! I have no information on Martin's immediate family or ancestors, if you may have a link please PLEASE write to me! I have reached a serious dead end in my Bower family. Thanks Gina Bower in Wisconsin 1 Martin Vanburen Bower b. 9-Feb-1822 Pennsylvania d. 10-Dec-1895 Garner, Hancock Co., IA m1. before 1850 Mary Steel ( this surname is based on speculation!) m. 12-Apr-1865 WI Malinda Sophia Stambaugh b. 2-Aug-1848 near Sandusky, OH d. 24-Sep-1928 Goodell, Hancock Co., IA The 1850 census of Wisconsin, Sugar Creek, in Walworth County lists Martin Bower, 25 (1825), with Mary Bower, 19, a seven month old daughter, Doratha, and a man, William Steel, 48, (possibly Mary's father). Martin was born in Pennsylvania, and Mary and William in New York. Doratha was born in Wisconsin. The 1860 census of Wisconsin, Bear Creek, Sauk County, lists Martin Bower, 35, as a farm laborer, living with the Lorenz Smith family. This census also shows him born in Pennsylvania. His age is difficult to read, could be 25, 28, 35. But he is alone, no information on Mary and Doratha. 2. I have a Christian Baur, born in 1856. Perhaps he comes from Switzerland ? You can see his data in the following adress: http://isuisse.ifrance.com/Baurgenealog/BAUR.Genealogie/D00001/I00020.htm#I6206 Best whishes. "George W. Myers" a *crit : > I am also researching Bowers from Canton, Stark County. My ggrandad was Christian (Christopher) F. Bowers Born 1856 somewhere in Germany. He married Charlotte A. Long of Salem, Ohio and they had somewhere between 11 and 15 children. Both Christian and Charlotte are buried in West Lawn Cemetery in Canton. My grandfather was their third child - Harry B. Bowers. Any information or connection to any of these would be wonderful. Thanks > > George W. 3. Hi Kate, You know what?... at this point, anything is possible! It could very well be that your John is my Isaac's older brother. Is your John from Connecticut? If so, do you happen to know where? The only name I have matching yours is Cynthia. As a help, however, I do believe your names carried over to Lansing County - right next door to Schuyler. I also believe (not 100% sure) that cousin Rob Bowers is working that area. Vanda Greenwood is looking for Cynthia Bower(s) who married John Morris. She and I believe Isaac and Cynthia are either siblings or uncle/niece. If Vanda doesn't contact you after seeing this message (though she probably will) :), let me know and I'll send her email addy to you. Stirring the pot, huh? Are you sure it isn't more like a mudhole??? :-D Colleen Kwelkuz@aol.com wrote: > > I've been searching for Isaac Bowers as well. My Isaac b. Aug 21, 1798 in > prob. NY state.
