    1. [BOWER] Roll Call (Joel Bower NY/OH/IN)
    2. Lisa K. Brown
    3. I am searching for the Joel Bower family. They started with Joel (Sr.) being born somewhere in New York (1806), traveled to the Cincinnati Ohio area, where his children were born, then moved on to Ripley County, Indiana where Joel (Sr.) passed and was buried (bef Nov. 1872). His first wife, Amy Anthony, had children: Isiah P, Isaac, Joel (Jr), Martha Ann, Henrietta Auguestina (Hattie), Mary Catherine, Jeremiah, and Margaret Elizabeth. Joel's second wife, Mary Woods, had children: Electa (Lettie) R, Mercy A., James, Amity C, Francis (Fannie) E, and George A. Personally, I am interested in Joel Jr. and his line. Joel Jr was born in Ohio on May 1, 1838 and married Mary Elizabeth Blackmore on Jan 8, 1861 in Ripley County, Indiana. After their marriage, I cannot find any record of them, until they were buried at the Rock Creek Baptist Cemetery near Westport, Indiana (Decatur County). They had at least one child, Charley Bowers, who was my great grandfather. I cannot find information on my great grandfather, Charley, before his second marriage in 1899. Anyone with information which could bridge some of these gaps would be showered with thanks! :) Lisa

Hello! just had an idea that i thought i would run by the family and see if i'm reinventing the wheel. i am sending it only to this list because i feel so comfortable here knowing that no one will jump on me about it. ok ... so what if you could 1) get simple outline maps for the areas where your ancestors lived, at any scale that is appropriate or interesting to you, from continent-sized to state, county or within a town even. 2) mark the place where your ancestors resided at each time where you have data, and make each successive map contain the previous information with lines connecting the points. 3) scan the maps and then place them into a genealogy program that can make slide shows of associated "photos" like mine can. i use Family Ties Deluxe. 4) by running the slide show rather quickly you *should* get a cartoon animation effect of the way your family or families spread over an area. whaddya think? has someone already done this? what about doing it for different lineages in different colors, showing how they converged perhaps in one area leading to a marriage that resulted in the combined lineage that leads to yourself or someone else? i'm thinking of it in terms of a teaching tool to help my young daughter learn about her family history in ways that might make it more interesting for her. 3. Thanks Donna for the census, but I have looked & can not find either, my brick wall goes like this, James Madison, son of William Bower left home at a early age how young ??? I was told my some second cousin that he left home & worked for an Uncle in a gro store or hardware store. He was married to a first wife by 1908. Had two girls by first wife, she died & he married my grandmother abt 1915. Somewhere in Ill or West Virginia. I think the Uncle was married to a Bower. I want to say the last name was cline, but that just comes out of nowhere. No adoption, just divorce between my parents when I was young & I know very little about my Bower side of the family & they are all passed on. Have you ran across a lost William Bower that might fit into this story? 1. Re: [BOWER] CHAT: animation of migration maps?
    2. Both FTM and PhotoImpression have slide show features. I know there are other programs with them but these I am familiar with. If a person would make several copies of a map/picture of the USA, state, area or foreign country they could outline/X the area of settlement at given times. If you had access you could even use maps from the era/year of movement. Scan these (or have it done at a print shop onto cd) in order into the album and set for slide show. Someone with more computer savvy could really do a neat program with this idea. My old puter had an animation program that came preinstalled and I never got the hang of it before the puter died. Would love it now but probably don't have the time to really play with it even yet. > I think this is a wonderful Idea. 3. Barbara, Have you found James Madison Bower in the Ohio 1900 census? If b. 1884, James would be 16 and perhaps still in parents house...i.e., you'd be looking for William & Delenia with children hopefully including James Madison in 1900. Or what about 1880 census before William married? Have you had no luck with Ohio census records? I probably missed your details in the past as to your brick wall. Were they adopted at some point?
