Hello Bower list, I belong to OH-FOOTSTEPS list and received this posting this morning. Not my family, but maybe this will help someone make a connection. Interesting that the baptism sponsor for Albert BOWERS is Albert BAUERFELD. Fran Subj: Baptisms, St. Mary's Catholic Church, Toledo, Ohio, 1903/Bowers and Blanchard From: the.bakers@flashnet.it (Bakers) To: OH-FOOTSTEPS-L@rootsweb.com I found these baptisms in the records of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Toledo, Ohio, Baptismal Register, 1901-1912. Irene Mary or Maria Blanchard, parents Alfred Blanchard, and Margaret Heary or Heavy. 3417 Gladstone Avenue, Toledo, Ohio. Sponsors were Jacob and Maria/Mary Schuller. Irene was born on February 17, 1903 and was baptized on March 8, 1903. The other one is: Albert Bowers, born February 11, 1903, baptized on March 8, 1903, parents Valentine (Walter) Bowers and Anna Bauke. Sponsors were Albert Bauerfeld and Maria Fritz. If anyone would like scans please let me know. Kathy Baker, Rome, Italy

She was born in 1870 in Tipton, Tenn. She married James Sterling Pinner on January 15, 1885. She died in 1907. They had six children, but I do not have their names in front of me. I am related to one of the younger ones, Clay Anderson Pinner (born August 29, 1895 in Tipton, Tenn). Nettie's parents were Henry Clay Bowers and Fanny Newton. Both were from Tipton, Tennessee. I would really appreciate any information or corrections about this. I need to know quite a bit more about Nettie's parents and her family. Hi Gina, I found a relation on my Smith side a couple of months ago. She had spent years cursing our 2 x great grandfather because he was John Smith from somewhere in Yorkshire, and, like me, had gotten to a point where we could get no further. Well, she's eating her curses now. :) I had already made contact with another relation on John's wife's side (which has increased to 3 in the last month who have lots of information to share) but between us we located a descendant of one of John's siblings, who lives in Salt Lake City, no less, and who had gone back another 2 generations. Between us all we are now back another!! I never held much hope of getting to far with this line, and looked at every new clue as a bonus. And perserverence has paid of incredibly. We are all over the moon, and we get to meet the Salt Lake City mob in November. They're coming out for a visit!!!! Never give up??? You bet!! Cheers, Andrea. -----Original Message----- From: Ginamarina [mailto:ginamarina@usa.net] Sent: Sunday, 10 June 2001 1:11 To: BOWER-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [BOWER] Never give up! I have been here on this Bower list for years, I believe since early 1999, and unfortunately have found not one thing on my mysterious Martin Bower from Pennsylvania. I still have a theory that he is a son from a family who became orphaned, but so far I have no clues....... However, I had been on some German websites and usenet groups posting about my mom's family... with no real luck, only finding out that maybe the mysterious "Vera, Germany" in my great aunt's handwriting MAY have been "Gera". But I have no way to verify it because I have no idea where Great Aunt Esther got her information..... and as I was mowing the grass on tuesday I was thinking about my Grandpa Thieme, who passed away on 31-Dec-1998. Missing him and thinking about the reunions there use to be.... and then thinking about genealogy...... coming in and looking at my group sheets.... wondering why on earth I have no information about his aunts and uncles..... I spent most of Tuesday evening on AIM with my Mom, picking her memory, and scouring the SSDI for relatives only to find out that most of grandpa's cousins lived right here in Wisconsin, and the others lived in Kansas. Mom remembered some great aunts and uncles, and some people she had met, and some stories about Grandpa packing up in his 20's with his cousin John from KS during the depression and travelling the midwest picking crops for people.... I got her into the social security index, and I went for the Kansas Genweb site.... and stumbled across a high school alumni page from the county where Grandpa's uncle had passed away. Sure enough, I found two Thiemes.... I went out on a limb and sent off two emails that night. The next day I was ecstatic. I had emailed two sisters, both daughters of Grandpa's cousin John, so they are my mom's second cousins. One had spoken to their dad - who is ALIVE and 87 - and he remembered my grandpa vividly and began to talk about the family..... This has opened an entirely new door. First for my Mom, who misses her father terribly, and now gets to hear more about their adventures as young men, and possibly even go to Kansas and meet these relatives; and second, I now have more people interested in my search and an entirely new branch of the family has been opened up to scour for the "old bible" or that box of photos in someone's closet. What's sad is that I never thought of this 5 or 10 years ago... or while my Grandpa was alive ... why did the notion come to me this week? no idea. But I guess I wanted to share my small victory, and say keep thinking creatively, you never know what you may have overlooked the first time through. I tend to forget how living relatives may have the keys to answering the questions about my distant ancestors, and shame on me!! Wonderful news Gina. I know just how you feel. I have just had contact with a third cousin in England (not my BOWERS family but who married into them). He is my third cousin - our gt. grandfather's were brothers. His cousin (though brought up as sister and brother) lives in New Zealand and it has been marvelous comparing notes of our ancestors lives as well as our own. All through the letters small "sayings" come through that our side say as well - quite uncanny. Luckily my mum is still alive and she was "tickled pink" with the news. Yes, NEVER GIVE UP. I have BOWER/(S) in Indiana also but have not been able to connect them to any line. My g-g-father John W. Bower was born in Berks Co, PA (per military records), ca 1830, but married after the civil war in Providence, Washington Cy, IND on March 22, 1868. I find him living there in 1870 census in a household next to Eliza Ann Bower (who was married to Thomas E, Bower in 1860 Census of that county) Eliza and Thomas had children on 1860: Henry age 21 b. PA, Mary C. age 19, James age 17, Elizabeth A age 13m Homer? age 12 all born in Indiana. Do you have any information on Bowers in other counties? Mary Lou Moore Kansas

I know he arrived in Australia on26/12/1872 onboard the Ship Vernon (from his Naturalisation papers even though he does not appear on the passenger list for such voyage). This ship sailed from a British Port so he must have left Germany and went somewhere else first unless the Vernon sailed from Germany and had a stopover in a British port onroute. Can anyone help me with how to find out departure date and point from Germany. Faye Australia
Robert, I had to contact you after your posting to the Bower-L list, because my maiden name is Bowers, and I am from Shelby County, IN. I am from the southwest part of the county (Washington township), near Bartholomew County . I don't recognize Jacob Bower, but I am looking for siblings of my great-grandfather, Charley Bower(s). He was the son of Joel Bower, Jr. from Ripley County. I know he was born in Ripley County and lived in Newton County, before moving to Wabash Co, Jennings Co, and then finally Bartholomew County. You also mentioned Johnson County, IN. The area in which my Bower(s) family settled is right where the 3 counties meet: Shelby County, Bartholomew County, and Johnson County. In fact, Charley had children in all 3 counties, which all lived within about 10 - 15 minutes from each other. You also mentioned the Bower from Clark County, IN. I am currently living in Clark County, IN. I don't know of any family in this area that are related to my Bowers in South-Central IN, but I would be willing to help you out with "leg work" if needed in the Clark County, IN area. Let me know if I can help you in any way. I would be interested to see if there is a connection between my Charley Bowers and your David or Jacob Bower in the Shelby County area. Wanda, Indiana is a very important state for Bower(s) research, so keep up the good work. I look forward to the additional information you will be adding to your site, since thus far I haven't found anything on the Bower(s) I'm researching. At the moment, I am trying to find information on a Jacob Bower. I have recently been contacted by one of his descendants who is trying to connect him to the Bowers of Grainger Co., TN. I believe this Jacob Bower is probably a nephew of my Andrew Bowers and that information about him and his family will finally allow me to determine the brothers and ultimately the parents of my Andrew. (Jacob is a common name in my line of Bowers. My Andrew had a son named Jacob, born 3 Dec 1838 in Grainger Co., TN. Andrew's brother, David Bowers, who moved from Grainger Co., TN to Shelby Co., IN after the 1830 census, also had a son named Jacob, born about 1833 in IN. A Jacob Bower, who I believe may be another brother of Andrew, appears on an 1831 tax list for Grainger Co. Other probable brothers who appear in the records of Grainger Co. are John, Henry and William. John is the only one known to have remained in Grainger Co., along with Andrew.) Per his Civil War records, Jacob Bower was born in Grainger Co., TN about 1842 (3 Nov 1842 per his grave marker). This Jacob Bower served in Co. E, 13th Regiment, Indiana Volunteers. He married Louisa Jane Talbert on 11 Nov 1866 in Shelby Co., IN, which is where his presumed uncle, David Bowers, lived. He and his Talbert brothers-in-law had a sawmill in Shelby Co. His household appears in Union Township in the 1870 census for Shelby Co., IN along with other Talbert families (David Bowers' family lived in Marion Township, Shelby Co., IN). Sometime after 1870, Jacob and Louisa moved to Barry Co., MO. He died 14 Oct 1899 in Cassville, Barry Co., MO and is buried there in Oak Hill Cemetery, along with his wife who died 16 Nov 1915. This information came to me just as we were beginning our annual migration to our summer home where, unfortunately, I have no access to a library. I am very interested in finding Jacob Bower in the 1850 and 1860 censuses. My previous research does not show him to be in Shelby Co. I know there was a Jacob Bower household in adjacent Johnson Co., IN. Perhaps he is the father of the Jacob Bower in question. If so, that would connect the Grainger Co., TN Bowers with the Clark Co., IN Bower families, which would really open up a world of possible new connections, going back to Rowan and Ashe Cos., NC. Does anyone have any information on the Jacob Bower family of Johnson Co., IN or know of any other Jacob Bower in the 1850 or 1860 census for IN? (Wanda -- one thing that might help attract more hits to your Indiana Bowers page is if census information was posted.) Robert Strong
Hi Cousins, I think I finally got the HTML turned off. Hopefully someone will see this message besides me. I have a question. Is any of the State/Country Projects being looked at? I know we have all put a lot of work into them but my counter only moves when I enter the page. I need to know if anyone is looking. I know we had a lot of problems before but it is working really well now. My Indiana page is at: http://www.crosswinds.net/~indbow/index.html Please stop by, go to Indiana Cousin Finders, about half way down the home page, click and look. At the bottom of each page you can click to the next page. It is not the best set-up but I promise to get it better as I go along, if we continue. I have probably 50 pages more to put in and move was sent today. I average working about 20 hrs a week on it. Thank you for you patience and understanding as I progress with this project.
