Here is an obituary for Kenneth Bauer from the Tuscola County Advertiser, Wednesday, June 20, 2001: KENNETH CARL BAUER of Caro, Michigan Passed away at his home on East Caro Road, Sunday afternoon, June 17, 2001 following a brief illness. He was 36. He was born October 7, 1964 in Caro, the son of Walter and Ethel (Frost) Bauer. He was raised on and maintained the homestead centennial farm established in 1888. He graduated from Caro High School in 1982 and was employed at Nash Finch, formerly Super Foods in Saginaw for the last 15 years or so. Surviving are his mother, Ethel; three sisters and two brothers, Brenda Bauer of Caro, Donna Bauer and her husband, Don Donigan of Roswell, New Mexico, Cindy Bauer of Birmingham, Mich., Robert Bauer and his wife, Kimberly of Caro and Walter Bauer of Midland; three nieces and nephews, Stephanie, Jennifer and Robert Bauer, Jr., all of Caro. Ken will also be greatly missed by many aunts, uncles, cousins, friends and neighbors. His father, Walter Bauer predeceased him on September 2, 1970. "Ken, your life seems to us too short. Although we need and love you so much, the Lord must need and love you more. You are now in a place where you will suffer no more. Kenny, you are deeply missed and will always be in our thoughts." Funeral service will take place at 10 a.m. Friday, June 22 at the Ransford Funeral Home in Caro, with burial to follow in the Almer Twp. Cemetery. Friends may call at the Ransford Funeral Home on Thursday from 4 p.m. until 9 p.m. and Friday morning from 9 a.m. until the time of the service at 10 a.m. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or to VNA/Hospice-Partners in Caring.

His military papers list him as 6' 2, black hair, & blue eyes. One place his complexion is listed as fair, another place as dark. Many of the Bowers that we know of seem to be quite tall. John Franklin Bowers, son of David, and Albert Bowers, son of John Franklin Bowers, were both at least 6'. Warren is 6' 3" and his daughter is 6'. Nancy Barbara Bowers, daughter of Albin Bowers, was quite tall, and her oldest daughter, Angeline was at least 6' tall. I have a picture signed William Bowers, Pearlington Ms., 1928 ,who also appears to be quite tall. We believe William to be James W. Bowers, son of Albin Bowers and Mary Glover. Brother of Albert W., and Nancy Barbara Bowers. There is another child listed on the 1900 Pearlington, Ms census, but unable to read name. Could be William, but party who read the census info for me says it looks like Alain. Somehow I keep thinking that this family somehow ties into the Ball family of Indiana. Possibly through either a Glover or Bowers Connection, or possibly both. I found that the Ball family line tied into my Ulrich Line. My gr gr grandfather, Frank Christian Marth ,married Ernestine Henrietta Ulrich. Their son, Andrew W. Marth, married Nancy Barbara Bowers. Nancy Babara Bowers mother was a Mary Glover. John Ball married a Nancy Glover, but have not been able to find any info on the Glover line in this family. The oldest Bowers I found listed in the index of persons in the Ball line was a Donald Hobart Bowers-- 21 Jun 1897. Well It is getting late and I have to sign off for tonight. Don't know if we can find a connection here, but the physical discription of both our Bowers sounds promising. Maybe we should do a little corresponding and see if we can come up with something. Back in November I posted a request on behalf of a close family friend to help them find their youngest brother who was placed up for adoption. There was a total of seven children who had been placed in foster homes with two being adopted out. The baby of that group would have been 36 years of age. She asked me for my help since she knew I loved digging up information. But even this was more then I could handle so I put my request out to my gen friends knowing it was a long shot. I received an email one night from a Shirley Smith of Mineral Wells WV who offered her help. Not only did she make trips to courthouses looking for info she made phone calls also. A couple months ago she found him, called to talk to him to make sure and then passed the info on to me and the family (who are not online). But this story doesn't stop there. Last week I drove my mom home to WV and was informed that the oldest of the boys, 46, had cancer of the pancreas and liver with little hope. Since these "boys" were always close to our family I drove my mom over to see him. His family who lives close was gathered there also, four of the seven. When I got out I was hugged and squeezed until I thought my ribs would crack! The lost brother had made a trip home four weeks earlier and they were all together for the first time in 35 years, and sad to say probably the last time. They had pictures made and were so thankful. I kept telling them I had done nothing but type the email and send it out on the wire, the person who deserved the credit was Shirley. She read the email and took the time to help. Well I flew home last night with instructions from each of them to make sure that she knows how much she did is appreciated, especially now with his time running out. I know that the "lists" are for genealogy research but I believe in my heart that the best group of people are my fellow genealogy friends. So to the angel in Mineral Well's WV, the Ellingtons say many thanks and God bless.
