Hello Everyone, My Bowen Ancestors came from Wales. As far as I have been able to determine, It starts with Moses Bowen, who was said to be the son of Evan Ap Owen, born in 1674 in Carmarthin, Wales and his wife, Rebecca Reese, daughter of Hugh Reese. She was born in 1676 also in Wales. Moses and Rebecca were married in 1703. Their son, John Bowen b in Chester County, PA in 1705 married Lillian McIlhaney before 1730. She was the daughter of Henry and Jane McIlhaney and was born 1710 in Ireland. John and Lillian moved to Augusta County, VA. They had 13 children and all of them were born in Augusta County, VA. John died in 1761 and Lily died in 1780, both in Augusta County, Va. Their daughter, Agnes Bowen is my 7th Great Grandmother. (John and Lillian are, of course, my 8th Great Grandparents). Agnes married John McFerrin and had one son. John Jr. Sometime after his death, she married Archibald Buchanan. He was the son of James Buchanan and Martha Allison. Agnes and Archibald had 8 children. They came to Tennessee from Augusta County, VA in 1785 and settled on 640 acres of land near the Hermitage, home of President Andrew Jackson. Agnes and Archibald built a home in Nashville called "The Old Blue Brick" in 1781. Agnes died in 1803 and Archibald died in 1806. They were buried in the Garden of The Old Blue Brick, but their son, James, had them moved when the house was torn down. They are now buried in the Buchanan Family Cemetery, in Hermitage Tennessee, but their graves are not marked. Their daughter, Martha Buchanan who married Andrew Steele, are my 6 Great Grandparents. This line continued with the Steele Family to the Wright Family to the Hurt Family and on down to me. I have a lot on all of these families. The list also includes Castleman and Shane and a few more. If anyone needs any information on any of these families, I will be glad to help any way I can. Most of this information came from Buchanan Researchers and also from a book on the Bowen Family. Also information came from the Tennessee State Library and Archives and the Metro Nashville Archives, and other researchers. The Buchanan's, Castleman. Steele's and Shane's were important in the settlement of Nashville and the adjancent areas. These Families are pretty well documented in the Nashville Area. Hope this isn't to much, but the list said as much as we have. I have a lot more, but, this is a short version. Hope everyone has a great day, Dollie Hurt Blazek [email protected]_ (mailto:[email protected])
