    3. I've "rescued" an old photograph of Henry F. LIPPITT which was taken at the Jones Studio in Providence, Rhode Island. In addition to his name, someone has written "President of Class" on the front of the photograph. The photograph appears to have been taken in the 1870's with Henry likely in his 20's at the time. The photograph was recovered with others belonging to the Class of 1878 and Faculty from Brown University. Based on limited research I was able to gather the following information regarding Henry and his family: Henry Frederick LIPPITT b. 12 Oct 1856 in Providence, RI the son of Rhode Island Governor Henry LIPPITT (b. 9 Oct 1818 in Providence, RI) and Mary Ann BALCH (b. 1823 in Providence, RI). Henry's second marriage after the death of his first wife in 1910 was to Lucy Hayes or Hays HERRON (b. 8 Nov 1877 or 1879) on 26 Apr 1915 in Washington DC and together they had a daughter, Mary Ann LIPPITT b. 29 Jun 1918 in Pride's Crossing, MA. 2. Hello Shelley Looks like you have more than went out of your way for some very lucky person that shares this surname. I do have BOWEN in my line, as my late mom was a Bowen -- but I have no Lippitt that I am able to locate - my John Bowen was born 1790 and I can pretty much follow thru from there -- sure do appreciate your good genealogy efforts though and I am sure you will have made a great break for some lucky person. Have a wonderful New Year -- Blessings -- JoAnn -----Original Message----- From: Shelley Cardiel <[email protected]> To: BOWEN <[email protected]> Sent: Sun, Jan 1, 2012 3:55 pm Subject: [BOWEN] LIPPITT - BOWEN Family Photograph I've "rescued" an old photograph of Henry F. 3. Hi Helly: I've just joined this list, and am not sure how active it is. You're such a good person to rescue this photo! No Bowen cxn re your message, however, I have very early roots (ARNOLD, CARPENTER, RHODES, GREEN, GORTON, OLNEY, SMITH, LIPPITT) in Providence/Cranston/Warwick, RI. My first thought it that the best "home" for this photo might be the wonderful Rhode Island Historical Society in Providence. www.rihs.org/ There more people would be able to see this wonderful treasure that you've found and saved for others. They have a wonderful genealogical collection, which includes old deeds, wills, genealogies, etc. (I found the ORIGINAL will, complete with waxed seal dated 1699 from an Arnold ancestor in the files!!! I mean a 300 year old document in my hands????) (I've been to the RIHS a few times, I'm unfortunately 500 miles away ...) This Henry is likely a descendant of Christopher LIPPITT -- early settlers of Providence and their farm is still standing in the western section of Cranston. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christopher_Lippitt. I'm quite sure Henry is a descendant of this line from the 1600s. (All those early families intermarried.) Alternatively, you might consider scanning this document and posting a notice at a Rootsweb LIPPITT list and send a copy of the pix to Brown University library, as they might also be interested in having this. Best of wishes to you. Marilyn WDC BOWEN -- New Glasgow, Pictou, NS (1850s); Boston (1870s) -- John Bowen/Jane Turner (sigh) -- children Jennie (b. 1853-1863 ish - 1932) (NS>Boston>Dorchester>Everett>Reading>Malden>Cambridge) and Annie Bowen (d. 1899, Reading, MA) > > > > -----Original Message----- > From: Shelley Cardiel <[email protected]> > To: BOWEN <[email protected]> > Sent: Sun, Jan 1, 2012 3:55 pm > Subject: [BOWEN] LIPPITT - BOWEN Family Photograph > > > I've "rescued" an old photograph of Henry F.
