I have a Daniel listed as a son of William and Catherine Van Antwerpen Bowen, also a Danial as the son of Abraham and Elizabeth Palmer Bowen, the next generation down. After a generation they left the Welsh Tract there and sailed to SC, and up the Grand Pee Dee River, to settle on the Welsh Tract there. West of Camden in Elgin is a "Bowen Road," which runs across the county from that town. Zachory Bowen left a big estate to sons by a first wife and to Daniel Bowen and others by "a Mrs. Robinson." Daniel and Nancy Bowen had one son Allen S. Bowen in SC, one child in GA, another in Ala, and arrived in Madison Co. TX in time for the 1860 Census. Allen married Mary "Polly" Wells in Grimes Co., next to Madison Co. The county seat of Madison Co is Madisonville, on I-45 about a third of the way up from Houston to Dallas. My Bowen family lived in Bowman, Elbert County, Georgia. While the family originated in Wales to Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, migrated to first, Virginia (one branch dropped off and stayed in Frederick Co., Va., John, his father, Moses, mother, Rebecca Reese, John's wife, Lillian 'Lily' McIllhany, and their 14 children stopped, first, in Augusta Co., Va., where John and Moses died in the same month, same year... and all of the sons fought in the American Rev. where one died at King's Mountain. Benjamin, my ancestor, and the 2nd youngest son, moved to Anderson Co., S.C., and he married Mary Findley in Guilford Co., N.C. in 1783. In my line, I have a Stephen Bowen in Atlanta, DeKalb County, GA in 1850 living next door to Hiram Bowen, who I believe was his brother. They may have been born in SC in around the turn of the century. I can't get back any farther. We've been in GA ever since. Hi Cathy/all on the Bowen list: I have been looking for more on my ancestor John Bowen and his wife Jane Turner. She was born in Nova Scotia. He was either born in NY (death record of daughter Annie Bowen who d. 1899 in Reading, MA) or in Nova Scotia (Census records for daughter Jennie Bowen Tucker). My GG GM, Jennie (Bowen) Turner was b. in New Glasgow, NS between 1853 and 1863 (every record I've found has different information. ack!) She married Henry Raymond Tucker in Stoneham, MA in 1879, but he was living in Boston. They lived first in Boston, Reading, Everett and Malden. I've found a Charles Bowen in Stoneham -- relationship unknown. The birth records of several of their children in Everett give their parents birth location as Halifax. I have a letter from Henry's pension file from the 1930s (I'm doing this from memory) from one of the children, requesting Jennie's birth certificate from New Glasgow -- this is the only clue I have that they were there. I've found no further information on John Bowen. I am in contact with a Bowen family in New Glasgow who connect with a woman I communicated with extensively a number of years ago, who had Bowens in NS and in Boston (like mine) and lost contact. If she is on this list and remembers me, I'd be happy to connect her with her family in NS!!!!! Hi Carl, I don't think we are in the same Bowen line. Philip Bowen, my Great Grandfather came to the US to Girard Pennsylvania, from Canada in 1857. His Grandfather had a been a Loyalist in NY. Don't think any of ours got down to Georgia.
