    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: Bowesetal Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.bowe/361.1.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Hi Joseph! Just to clarify for others in this message thread, the Bowe of "The Glen" in Waterford City are different from the Kilgobnet Bowe, at least as far as I know. (Does anyone know different?) The ones in Waterford City were involved, as you know, in the pig trade, at least since 1860. I've wondered if the Kilbognet Bowe were in the family too and supplying to the pig trade. Just a theory. Joseph I have a partial tree for this Waterford City family, a line from Ballybricken that starts with a Michael Bowe, believed born in Callan, Kilkenny. He has a son Daniel who married Elizabeth Caulfield in 1860. The Caulfield family was in the pig business and got Daniel's sons involved. At least that's how a descendent knows it. They have sons Nicholas, Paul, Gabriel and Patrick, and a daughter Elizabeth? Seeing that your Thomas' first son is named Michael, I'm guessing he and Daniel were brothers. On the other hand, there is a Thomas Bowe, baptised 1833 like yours, in Stradbally, Waterford, to James Bowe and *Bridget Ryan.* Is it possible the Bridget Ryan you have as Thomas' first wife is his mother? In 1834 another Thomas Bowe baptised in Kill to a James Bowe, wife not recorded. 1833 a Thomas Bowe marries a Catherine Carroll in Tramore. 1834 a Thomas Bowe appears in the Tithe Applotment Books in Stradbally, Waterford. These names were so common that these could be different families, but the Bridget Ryan wife caught my eye after looking at your tree. The locations are all also between Waterford City and Dungarven/Kilgobnet. Nice to have that photo ID'd. Thanks! I have some records on the Glen Bowe that you're probably already aware of here https://sites.google.com/site/bowessurnames/records/ireland/-criminals (I'm moving my old site to this location). For some reason, one says 32 Glen, the other 33 Glen. I supposed he could've moved from 1877-1894. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
