Author: BowesOneNameStudy Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.bowe/340.4.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Thanks everyone for clarifying. Unless superly (sorry I got the gender wrong before -- I'll have to learn to just use the online handle) were to have a male Bowe from her line participate in the DNA project, and find he is related to my line from Kilkenny, there are at least four genetic lines for the surname Bowe/s immigrated to New York (it is not unusual for both spellings to occur in the same family though it doesn't always happen). I am sure that more will turn up. There is another one from County Leix, Ireland, who emigrated there in the early 1900s. It's also interesting to note how often the same first names appear in different genetic lines (including "back when" in Ireland). Superly, I do wonder if our lines are related since both settled in the small town of Jordan. We also have a Vincent in our line, not a very common name. Even today, New York has a high concentration of the Bowe and Bowes surnames: http://www.dynastree.com/maps/detail/bowe.html and http://www.! dynastree.com/maps/detail/bowes.html . It would be great to try to catalog them all in the DNA project as a way of capturing many if not most of the genetic lines that came to the US.
