His reason for this request was as follows: In December, 1863 while on duty at Louisa, KY he contracted measles and was sent to the hospital at Ashland, KY. Soon after he took a relapse which resulted in Dropsy of the Abdomen, and this finally settled into Kidney disease upon which latter he basis his present claim. He was married by J.A. Abbott at Wm Bradley's residence and witnessed by A.J. Caperton. Cause of Death: Kidney Infection Military service: Bet. September 06, 1862 - September 15, 1865, he was a Pvt. in the 39th KY Infantry, Company A. His commanding officer was Capt. John B. Auxier. William enlisted at Peach Orchard, KY and mustered out at Louisville, KY. Occupation: Farmer William Hargis Bowe: Kentucky 39th Infantry: Bowe, Hargis, Private Company A He enlisted as a private in Company A 39th Kentucky Reg. at Floyd Co KY on 6 Sept 1862 and mustered out on Sept 15 1865. He got a disibility pension of $4.00 per month after several tries and affiidavits. He claimed to have gotten a hernia while carrying a load of fire wood. One affidavit list a Robert Bowe age 28, (May 1880 date of affidavit) who claims to be a son of Hargis. On one surgeons report of June 3 1874 he is listed as age 56, meaning he was born about 1818; height 5-91/2; weight 160; complexion dark. Hargis died 1 Aug 1880 leaving no widow.
