    2. What a coincidence! Baudouin is precisely identical with the French spelling (often rendered Baldwin in English) for the counts of Flanders. I have before me a copy of "La Flandre Sous Les Premiers Comtes" which refers to "Baudouin Ier" (Baldwin the First) who lived in the ninth century. The name persisted in this form for many centuries and was brought to this country (US) perhaps by Pierre Baudouin (now often rendered Bowdoin) in the seventeenth century. Tom (rootsnva@aol.com)
