Hi Katherine, My ancestry membership is no longer active and I never put my family info on it, just wrote to a couple of people there. People come and go quickly on Ancestry. I have found most of my info from family. The Bowden branch paid for professional genealogists to research the line. That was long before computers so it isn't in any computer form, just pen and ink. They were from France but may have come to the U.S. by way of England. They were Huguenots. Their earliest U.S. records are found in the south, in the Carolinas. The Bible record said Chester, North Carolina. Members of the family spell the name Bowdon and even Bowdoin lending more credence to the French heritage. The progenitor was Thomas Bowdon/Bowden. He was born in either 1793 or 1773. Because the record is in pen and paper from the Bible, it is difficult to tell the difference. I always thought it was 1793. Thomas Bowdon was well to do and left property and people held in slavery which was an expensive proposition. Karen, Thanks for the interesting info on the Bowden tree. I downloaded documents at the library onto a stick but have not had the time to go through them yet. I am glad to keep you informed on what I find if you like. My grandmother said was French but I never knew if it was her mother's or father's side on her side so that is good to know. Thanks again, Katherine On Oct 28, 2013, at 7:53 AM, <andover-mg@juno.com> wrote: > Hi Katherine, > My ancestry membership is no longer active and I never put my family info > on it, just wrote to a couple of people there.
