Hi Harriet, I am away from home but have a short condensed copy of my Bowdons with me. I have Thomas Bowdon/Bowden 1793-1850 who married Parmelia Jenkins 1806-1858. Thomas moved all over the south. I seem to remember that he was born in Chester County, NC but that might not be right. He lived in DeSoto County, MS, also AL (Lauderdale County?) and finally Arkansas where their last two children were born. At least one of the Bowdons/Bowdens went to Limestone County, TX. Thomas' will specified that his sons were to move there. I have a complete list of the Bowdon/Bowden children at home but my line from Thomas and Parmelia is Benjamin Franklin Bowdon/Bowden 1837-1911 who married Frances Parks/Parkes 1842-1892. They are both buried in Hite Cemetery in Randolph County, AR. Family lore has it that my Bowdons/Bowdens (I have seen it spelled both ways and some of the family spell it one way, the other spell it another way) had the original spelling as Bowdoin and were from France then to England then to the U.S. My grandfather said it was French also as that is what his grandfather, B.F.Bowdon told him. I checked with Bowdoin College in Maine as they hold some Bowdoin records but they could not find Thomas Bowdon mentioned. They said they don't have all of the records. Please let me know if you have seem these names in your database.
