Hi all, I have a question for those of you researching the Bowden lines in the Penobscot Bay region. Does anyone have any guesses, or has anyone seen any evidence, as to how John Bowden and Eunice Bridges of Castine, ME are linked with the other Bowden lines in the area? Apparently, their daughters Elizabeth and Esther both married sons of Nehemiah L. Bowden and Rebecca (née) Bowden. Their children's birth records are in Castine (earliest child Elizabeth born 1823). Here's the basic information I have on John and Esther, along with John's second wife Sarah: ------------------- John Bowden was born in Penobscot, Hancock, Maine, calculated 1803. He married (1) Eunice Bridges [**Death Record of Elizabeth Bowden, née Bowden (daughter), 17 Apr 1899, gives parents' names as "John Bowden" and "Bridges", and father's birthplace as Penobscot, in contrast to the other mentions of Castine**]. John married (2) on 20 April 1846 in Castine, Hancock, Maine, Sarah (Sally) [née?] Bowden, who was born calculated 1802 in Massachusetts. John and Sarah appeared on the census of 1850, on August 14, in Castine. John and Sarah appeared on the census of 1860, on June 11, there. John and Sarah appeared on the census of 1870, on June 3, there. John and Sarah appeared on the census of 1880, on June 7, there. John's census info: 1850 - 47, Farmer, b. ME; 1860 - 56, Laborer, $40 personal estate, b. ME; 1870 - 68, Sexton, b. ME, cannot write; 1880 - 78, Laborer, he & father b. ME, mother b. unknown. Sarah's census info: 1850 - 48, b. ME; 1860 - 58, b. MA; 1870 - 78 [!], b. MA, cannot read or write; 1880 - Sarah, 81, b. MA, parents b. unknown ------------------- I can send the little information I have on their children, if anyone would like it. I'm not descended from John and Eunice, although I am descended from Nehemiah L.
